Signature for Farmer Pete videos: great camera angles, great rock-and-roll music, old equipment (and old farmer!)that both work great until they don't, which just creates the opportunity for the next video!

Thanks Deb! The old equipment and the old farmer seem to require more maintenance than they used to.

We finished up here at the home place, wasn't supposed to rain 😂🤣 should have hauled all night, had a semi load and a few big bales left out.. but all field stacked for loading trucks, only the tops of half of them got wet. Holding off on cutting at the moment, supposed to rain towards the end of the week and we can't get it dry in less than 5 days... Not like we don't have equipment to work on 🙄 I had no doubt your new rake would work well 👍😁 We've always done well with the least expensive equipment.

Thanks Ed! We've had a lot of dry weather, I just wasn't ready yet. Good thing I don't do that much any more.

Dang roller bearings... So easy to not catch them before they explode the roller..
@farmerpete Жыл бұрын
True! It's only the 2nd roller bearing that's gone out in 19 years so I suppose I shouldn't complain.
@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin Жыл бұрын
@@farmerpete that's pretty good!! We would lose 1 or 2 every year... We were also making 2500+ round bales back then too.. Plus some custom baling

I can't think of a better way to spend $55! Nice to see the 180 😀Sorry about the baler.

I'm like you - the first time I cut hay in a given year, I always just cut a little until I make sure everything is working. Sorry about the round baler problems, but the $55 rake seemed to be working fine. I have always had New Idea rakes - still have one now. Never saw one with dolly wheels like yours has. Have always seen that on New Hollands. Enjoyed the video.
@farmerpete Жыл бұрын
Thanks Charley. The dolly wheel set up on this rake is home made. someone shortened the rear axle from an old front wheel drive car (looks like an early '80s Chrysler) and did a pretty good job fabricating a dolly wheel set up.

Pete You could say you kind of stole that rake ! Heck the tires and rims were worth that. All new teeth would not be cheap. The old roller rake I used as a young lad on the farm.

Great video Pete the rake done a great job and looked good behind the WD. Man that’s a bummer about the bearing going out in the Baler. Take care Pete and I hope you have a great upcoming week 👍

I’m getting back into hay for myself. Haven’t down hay period for last 5 years . I too will using a bar rake for the first time in over 20 years . I’m a little nervous lol . The little patches I’ll be doing are fairly irregular shaped as well. When I was younger we used the bar rake and had a round baler, and we doubled the rows. it was a 27 acre rectangle. Now I’m using an ancient square baler. if the grass is very thick at all, I’m not gonna be able to double the rows if it’s then I seen a lot of videos were guys just go around and around and around until they get a good size row then they turn around and double back and finish that windrow off and then they start over again. I guess I’ll just have to figure it out as I go lol. when I got a little older we traded for a 702 wheel rake, a V rake, and everybody I’ve helped since that’s what they have. So really I have very little wheel time with a bar rake
