this is back when I was young, running to the end of pine st. to watch the trains and I had the time of my life when the local at westville ok. let me ride in the cab while they changed cars at the feed mill.I got acquainted with the crew, and they would give me gifts, like one time the conductor gave me a KCS gon....a KCS hat patch and some other little things that we held secret because they could lose their jobs if somthing happend but my dad told them that it was ok and no trouble if somthing did happen. and after that I knew the sound of the local somtimes it would be gp 30s, mp 15s, gp 40s and I would be standing at the switch stand when they got to town. ahhh, the good ol days!

lol, true, but this was westville ok., about 3-5 thousand maybe.... if you count every body in a 10 mile radius. you know "small town USA". they probably wouldnt nowadays because if somthing happend they WOULD get sued. .....SHITTERS.

I was at Ft. Polk, LA in late 1972 & early 73. KCS tracks in nearby Leesville at that time were in sad shape. In several areas around there you could see where derailments had occurred in the past.

KCS owns a little bit of track on the Kansas side.
@conductormtm3 жыл бұрын
@@JadenGGvam There is trackage on the KS side in Kansas City, however most shots I saw had the KCS grain elevator in the background. It is next to where the roundhouse was. That is on the Missouri side in the east bottoms on Gardner off Chouteau.

is there any video out there for early KCS? I've seen a few short clips, but it's mostly still shots that I find. There are so many other roads seem to have tons of footage. I'd love to model late transition era when they had a few Alcos and Baldwins along with the NW2s and SW7s.

The KCS was obviously fond of the SD40-2 diesel, and no wonder. They can do it all. Though lots of them are still in mainline service, they're being downgraded to mainly switching and local service. They are now old. Burlington Northern and Union Pacific must have bought hundreds of them. They were everywhere.

The engineer's don't wave from the train anymore, not like they did back in 1954, but trackside still sees 'em CHRIS

I thought this was from 1953 to 2008, I saw nothing from 1953 not any black and white stills of any steam engines. I know KCS was still using steam switchers in 1954 as my grandfather was a draw tender on the bridge at Westlake, La.
