am 71, retired orthopedic surgeon, one day many years ago a man came into my office and was totally jacked. I asked what he did and he said pushups. He did hundreds per day. I started with sets of 10 progressed upward over many months. The key thing is when you are old how will you get yourself up out of a chair. Pushups man. This guy gets it, explains it and shows it. Quite a great find!

I got an injury called "golfer's elbow" doing pushups. It was a sharp pain in my elbow that prevented me from getting to my max reps and wasted a lot of time. If you want to avoid this, pay close attention to everything this man says about your wrists. If you have elbow pain doing pushups, keep reading: I will share what worked for me because most videos don't even mention it. Take your thumb and dig into the muscles around your elbow. You are looking for a "knot", meaning an area that is sore and tight. If you don't find it, fully extend your elbow, and try again, this time while rotating your wrist. Once you find the knot, dig into it with your thumb. Follow it back up to your wrist for as far as you feel pain. They call it "golfer's elbow" or "tennis elbow" depending on what side the pain is on, but its actually the muscles that connect from the wrist all the way to the elbow. Avoid using your elbow, keep massaging that knot for a few days, and you should be good to go.

@@NBodi maintenance to mantain what you already gained after reaching your goals is always a fraction of what you were doing before essentially, say you struggled to do a really tough push up position that lifts a great deal of your bodyweight, but once you reach that goal and you can do it ~"easily" then you only need to work out at least once a week, maybe twice, or you can do it every day if you want but a huge fraction of what you used to do, cause essentially what is happening is that every time you do at least 1 rep or 10 you're telling your body "don't think for a second that I want to get weaker, I need you to stay strong enough to still be able to perform this exercise/lift this much weight" so so long as your body is assuming you need to be strong enough to lift the weight or do that planche push up, it will continue to mantain what you've gained still you do need to work out, either your normal workout but only once a week or split that workout across the week, w.e you think is better, keeps you more active or healthier, the benefit of doing SOMETHING every day is also that idea of instilling discipline but yeah, one you reach your goals you can finally "kick back" a bit and not be under so much stress and tension all the time, however you still need your protein intake for maintenance and the like, although it can be less now since you're not breaking down your muscles as often or spending energy that causes muscle breakdown, and you need to watch your calorie intake as well since you're not spending as much energy as before but this is obvious, just said it in case it goes over anyone's head

The fundamental take aways are as follows: 1. Toes pointed 2. Thumbs of the floor(prevents wrist stress) 3. Hands at shoulder width and slightly turned in to target the forearms and triceps 4. Hands should be placed together with the thumbs touching as well as the index fingers to form an equilateral triangle - this targets the pectoralis major and... Can anyone else think of adding to this?
@owenphl1652
@owenphl1652 Жыл бұрын
Just a typo, 2. Thumbs off the floor.
@BringDHouseDown
@BringDHouseDown Жыл бұрын
and not mentioned in the video: if you want to target biceps you do reverse grip(literally what it sounds like, hands, pointing to your feet, although it doesn't have to be literally pointing to them) and to increase intensity, find something like a bar for inclined(works upper chest more) or to place your feet on for declined(works lower chest more), increase the height of the feet to lift even more weight with just your core and upper body(increasing the height with inclined though doesn't work though since that would only eventually lead to you standing up lol, but at a 45 degree angle it is tough pushing off away from the surface since the angle places a lot of effort on the upper chest and shoulders) strengthen your shoulders with dips and core with L-sits(if you can't do it start with tucked first, then alternating one leg forward at a time, then holding one leg forward for each leg, then holding both forward and you've reached L-sits like gymnasts do) you need this to progress to tucked planche and the follow ups that eventually lead to a full planche, after that you can move on to hand stand push ups once you strengthen your shoulders and core(ESSENTIAL, it needs to be TOUGH, rigid, like an unmovable wall, do resistance training, if you keep doing flexing exercises like crunches, treating your abs as if they are arms or legs, you would only have issues in the future, the abs are a transitory muscle group, it needs to stay still to transfer energy/strength effectively).

Glad I found this channel. I don't even buy magazines anymore for inspiration and hype because they're so expensive. I'm 42 soon out of shape big time as a trucker. I think imma buy one and put those photos on the walls of my trucks like I used to do back in the days along with Wordup magazine. I'll be sure to visit this page daily

I relasided doing push ups maximaly 3-4x a week. Everyday its to much stress. And not doing fast, when I go down I stay 2 seconds, 2second up and full movement. I am useing push ups board. Really good assistant and saves your wrist. Also good is plank. 3times a week a 2 times pull ups. I take one hour and doing as much as I can.

Thank you for the tips on hand positioning... My favorite work out is, combining walking, light running, sprinting and push ups (of varying styles). After 5 miles. 200 push ups and hour and 20 minutes of variable intervals of "cardio." Thanks again for the hand position tips. Cheers friend.

3.5 mile run and 100 push ups (25 reps X 4 30 second rest in between) every morning. I'm 57 but just started the push up routine a couple of months ago. I couldn't do 10 push ups when I started now I can do 60 straight. My goal is 200 like you eventually.

Is he saying that if you do shorties your muscles get bigger than if you’re doing full range?
@StrictlyBarTalk
@StrictlyBarTalk Жыл бұрын
Shorties activate the fast twitch muscle fibers which are larger than the slow twitch muscle fibers ...
@jamesmorell1758
@jamesmorell1758 Жыл бұрын
Even that explanation doesn't do it justice. The reason "shorties" bulk you up is because you're causing a lot of stress to chest in the range where the muscle contractions are highest. All without ever letting up. If you did full range of motion your shoulders would like burn out first, followed by triceps. With shorties your chest is gonna burn up. Wish we would've explained it better. In essence, short range of motion at the point of max contraction will overtime pump you up because you're getting more stress and volume. But if you only do shorties you become gradually weaker in good form.

@@StrictlyBarTalk So ... yes due to oxygen,blood volume, the stress ,speed and intensity ... caused by the exercise movement causes the muscles fibers to expand ... the larger fast twitch muscle fibers should be engaged/stimulated ... while the smaller slow twitch muscle fibers are less engaged/stimulated ...

The muscle fibers that can be engaged by doing shorties are larger than the ones ... that can be engaged by doing full range ... even with these 2 facts ... your physiology plays a major role in what'll work and won't work for you !
