It was probably crack before. Machining just made it visible. Glad to hear you were able to get it sleeves.

I feel for you, seriously. I'm rebuilding, ground up, a BJ8, I installed a brand new 880.00 Aus windscreen, looked glorious, next morning it had cracked. Not as serious as your problem, but devastating none the less.. I have a spare block you could have for free, but shipping cost would be......

That's devastating news and then time. Been there sorta. In my case the shop just kept taking shorter and shorter cuts till it failed for the fourth time and I sued and a year and a half later, won. Restoring these is a labor of love but that entails setbacks too. Good luck Chris. I imagine it can be sleeved but???

My machinist has speculated that there must have been some rust working in the water jacket behind the cylinder wall. He assures it can be sleeved and the result will be a stronger cylinder than it was before. He apparently does these all the time and is completely relaxed about fixing it and getting it back to the same +0.030 size it is now.

You will do all 6 of course and treat the block to the latest cleaning, sonic, mystical coating duff and realize the block is better than new, right? Best of luck. When you get discouraged think of John Britten and his motorcycles:--) Jim

James Tennier The machinist doesn't think there's any reason to repair anything beyond the one cylinder for now. He does all the high end work in my town including years worth of race engines so I have no reason to doubt his opinion.

It was repaired by my machinist with a sleeve! The price was pretty reasonable too. Good news! Hopefully I will get a chance to work with it this weekend.

I was able to get it sleeved and I think the block is in solid shape now.

I was able to get the block sleeved by my machinist. Then I had a ring break when I was assembling the engine. That delayed me another 2 months. The engine is basically back together now. Just need to make another video. Thanks for asking.
