Great vid as always. I bought one a few years ago just for roadside emergencies but have used it quite often in my shop. The first time using it I felt grinding. When I took it apart there was no grease. I cleaned it well and packed it with good grease and it has worked well. Mine had sloppy gears too. Definitely not made in the USA.

Not made here but the specs are from here and it's made to order. It's not the Chinese factory's fault, it's the U.S. buyer's fault for asking for that kind of quality to sell cheap and fast. I did some research on that and found that China has some of the finest quality products in the world but not readily available in the States. The "Chinese junk" is mostly made to order from companies here.

@@GordonRobertsonDIY this the most underrated comment I’ve ever read on the internet. We’re so quick to call it “Chinese Junk” myself included. Before reading and understand this comment I thought China just pushed junk and sent it to the USA but I didn’t realize that American companies sends specs and order them that way. Wow. Thanks for the insight.

I'm so glad you made this video. I was about to buy the Cheater Wrench based upon your video several days ago using the Cheater Wrench. It looks like they are trying to compensate for the chineseium raw casting by packing it with heavy grease instead of properly machining the gearing. I understand this is what makes the price low. I'm glad I procrastinated. I'm thinking I'll try the one offered by Northern Tool. Thank again Gordon!!!

Great video, I work on hydraulic motors and drives for excavators and bulldozers. They are the same idea as the drives I work on with the center gear being the "sun gear" then the "Planetaries" and finally running around the "Ring gear". Of course the ones I work on are far better machined and WAY bigger. :P I enjoyed watching, thank you.

Thanks for commenting Bill. I just take my drive motors to Bobcat and let them do them, I do the cylinders at home though and I have done the hydro motor on my stump grinder at home.

Definitely a real case for buy once cry once. Great content showing you get what you pay for 👍. OTC used to sell a decent torque multiplier. . Used to work on a lot of Mack camel back springs.at 1800# of torque. Only way to get trunnion bushing to last was at the proper torque.

We (our politicians) in the West have made a huge mistake but destroying our manufacturing base and getting the Chinese to make everything. Now we are their slaves and they are on the way to becoming THE most powerful nation of Earth...Then they give us Covid 19 which is ruining the global economy and costing millions of lives..and who supplies the PPE?? Great postmortem Gordon. Did that orange one even have a bearing on the out put shaft? As sloppy as it flopped around it didn't look like it. It's apparent that what these companies did is spec their tolerances so wide that they could assemble with raw castings to keep the cost down. Machining all of those parts would have made it more precision and reliable, but really driven the cost up. Off topic, my jacket looks _exactly_ like yours. Many years ago our company bought us managers at different locations jackets with our names and company logo on them. A few years later myself and a couple of other managers were at a meeting with the company president (who originally bought us the jackets) and one guy from a southern operation was wearing his as was myself. My jacket was worn, torn, and greasy. His looked brand new. I saw that and thought to myself that it was kind of obvious who's actually doing the work....

The red one has no bushing on the output, I didn't check that far on the black one. I just received a 78:1 today, I'll be looking inside of it real soon. I need a good one for my truck and another one for the shop. They have no excuse for making them so poorly, anyone would gladly pay $200 or more if it were made with machined parts and a close tolerance. Not hard to do it right. A winch motor is done that way, maybe I should make my own from one of those.

@GordonRobertsonDIY5 жыл бұрын
A winch motor is machined and doesn't cost much more than these. It's a scam because they know you won't use it more than a couple times if at all.
@kyrifleman61765 жыл бұрын
most likely made from the rejected castings bought in bulk, why there are so few honest, quality, legitimate manufactures in business these days. Normally the marketplace would weed out low quality junk over time, that competition would lower consumer price as well and over time only affordable stuff that actually worked would persist. No one should get away with ripping off consumers like they do. When buying the higher priced tool doesn't even get you any better quality then there is a serious problem.
