58 Beetle and 64 Beetle, What's the difference?

Growing up we had a 64. However, it was an early 64 so it still had the nose style license plate light.

My dad had a 58 with the semaphores that he restored 10 years ago. Great Video! Nice rides!

A gas gauge was optional, starting in 58, maybe a little later, but was a rare option. It was round. The spring-loaded front hood came out in 1960, as did the deep-dish steering wheel.

Also, I push-button door handles came out in 60 or 61.

What's the difference in h.p. between the 58 and 64?

I belive 36hp and 40hp. However, neither of the cars has the factory engines. The 58 has a 67 engine and the 64, I belive is a 66.

Interesting video. I noticed your 58 has semifors. I have a 58 also and mine doesn't, yours must be a European model I guess. I also have a 64 that I'm curious if the door would work on my 58 I know the handle is different. But I wonder if they are the same dimensions.

Thanks! Yes, it is a German domestic model that was imported. I would like to do a video on it as well. The big difference for the doors is the holes for the door handles. The 64 handles have two holes, one large and one small. Your 58 does not have a small hole because the 'ice pick' does not touch the metal. So the door would fit but you would have to fill in the small door handle hole.

@@midwaygarage oh OK. My 58 door is trash and the 64 is completely rusted along the floor and I've been wondering if I could make it work. I have a welder and could modify it to take the 58 handle. Thanks
