Loved the photo of the Colt Factory dome in CT. I always enjoyed seeing it in person as I drove by on my way to China Lake, ME for vacation from the Summer heat in MD. This conversion is a new one for me. Thanks Doc.

I have watched your newest video through and plan to view it again in a few minutes, as there is so much to unpack here. Thank you for another thorough differential diagnosis, doctor.

Good morning, Doc! What a wonderfull start of the day. Another trapdoor that I didn't know about. The ejector sure beats my Belgian trapdoor. I have a nice sporterized Barnett P53, and quality is excellent. I accidentally double loaded it! Stout recoil, but no damage. Guess I'll be allright, as long as I don't stare to much through a telescopic sight. Impressive gun you got there. Thanks for sharing!

An excellent and informative video! The detachable breach is a simple and elegant solution to the flapping breach when cleaning the rifle, this must have been a huge advantage over the standard system. Interesting that drug smuggling was a thing back then, I thought it was a modern day problem. All Best Wishes for Christmas and New Year! Chris B.

This was a very interesting video- old California Joe stared down his scope so much it wore out his eye!

Very interesting story about Truman Head / "California Joe"; I had seen references to him, but knew little more. The .58 Burden looks like it would be an interesting cartridge to reload for. I wonder if CBC 24ga Brass Shotshells would be a 'cheap' alternative for brass...? Bravo on your Presentation!

Hi Doc - great video. I'm always fascinated by these early conversions. It certainly does resemble the Springfield conversion. What was the outcome of his lawsuit? The removable breech block is a novel feature, but I see little value other than to make cleaning easier. Great shooting. Like California Joe, my eyesight is deteriorating, so shooting with barrel sights is hopeless. Clearly you don't have that problem!

Either that was originally on a captured blockade runner sold at aution or possibly held in storage at the end of the war? Any info on where Berdan had aquired arms for the conversions?

Very nice Doc. How long are the cases? I'm trying to find a name for a .577 round that the case is 1.37" long. I've found the 58 Roberts that fits pretty well. The odd thing is it's chambered in a German double rifle that I have.

How did the Berdan round compare to the 45-70 round?
