Of course advertising revenue is an income stream that you get in return, fair and square. A way to help date your beams is to ask the locals when circular saw cut beams, arrived in the area of Scotland you were at circular saw, cut beams, at least in the US did not become very common, especially in rural areas till after the late 18th century and early 19th century

The customs house would have been used by the Customs Officer and his team. Customs officials role was to prevent smuggling and they had a boat, the customs cutter which could be rowed or sailed to intercept ships suspected of smuggling. Another role was to find and destroy illicit whisky stills, which most isolated communities had.

Gee Katie you had me holding my breath with that windows removal without taping the glass & when you took your glove off, I had a feeling of impending doom! Lol . Those scotch eggs brought back childhood memories of my grandmother (she was English & married to a Scotsman) she use to make these for our outings & long train or bus journeys when we went away together. She passed away over 30 years ago when I was about 18. Thank you for helping me to remember part of my childhood long forgotten.

A good old tip from an elderly antique dealer is to use baby oil and a lot of it to join big cracks in the wood. If you think you’ve used too much keep wiping more on.
