Great video and very well explained...well done and thanks. I have a 580E Super and have no manual to guide me through this process. Seen many videos on uTube attempting to explain, but they are more intop telling their darn lifes story than getting to the point like you have done. As a novice, I now feel confident to do the job now. We need more like these on uTube.

Having rebuilt a BUNCH of these cylinders, I have two answers. The first is you DON'T remove the swing cylinder. Just unpin the rod that needs rebuilding after swinging the boom out of the way. And, the gland nut can usually be unstuck with a 48" pipe wrench.

We are doing this exact operation right now, but can't get the gland nut loosened. Any advice for a stuck gland nut? We did take out the set screw already.

I have a 580b 1973 and I ordered seal kits part number cs-1543383c1, this appears to be the wrong kit. What is the part number you used for your rebuild

I have a cylinder you can rebuild for me if you like a challenge. The cylinder is the extend/retract cylinder in the boom of a small crane. It is 6" diameter, 20 foot long and weighs 1000 pounds. I almost forgot you have to pull the boom apart and remove the cylinder and put it back and replace the boom tubes which weigh 5000 lbs. Any takers?I have done it before and am not looking forward to again.

I've got a 580b extendahoe and the cylinder is inside too, I don't have any good ideas on how to get it done without another machine, which I don't have.
