Lisa.. thank you so much for this tutorial! As much as I am in LOVE with acrylic pour paintings... I have hesitated to give it a try.... Primarily because I live in a small condo where storage and activity space are limited...and let's face it... paint can be messy! BUT... you have just given me inspiration!! With minimal paint, pigment powders, a cell activator, and a few tools... I can do this... and possibly keep the mess off the carpet. Gosh... I'm so excited now. Thank you!

Well well well... I have finally learned my egregious error in bloom making! 😒I have been using the right house paint....right down to the Valspar brand. However, in my hours of ignorant mindlessness, I've had them tint the base White! 😑 Ugh! This realization is almost painful. If it is true that we learn from our mistakes, I will soon be a Rhodes Scholar! Thank you immensely for inserting, into my brain, the common sense knowledge of which I apparently missed out!😪 Gotta run. Lowe's closes in an hour! BRB!🤪

@@HarmonyHouseArt. Yeah I’ve got the bell on all but I’ve subscribed to so much, I like true crime so I’ve a heap of them, I love the narrowboats so got narrowboat shows, and of course Mr Ballen then there are my water and acrylic painting ones too, sometimes I get so many it’s easy to miss. I unsubscribed to a number of them, mainly the true crime as they’re easy to find anyway, there are some I really look forward to don’t want to miss and yours is one. Hopefully now I’m sorted. Love your work, I m new at this craft and trying so hard to achieve some of the ways these pours are done. I've tried many recipes for the mixing the paints, can't seem to get all the cells even though I use the exact recipes. Don't know what I'm doing wrong but I love your work.
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Kay! In this bloom technique, the cells arise because the paints we use as the "cell activators" are very thin and stretchy. You can blow or swipe them over the other colors and the other colors pop up through the parts that stretched out. These are very different from cells that arise in regular pours- those are usually from the friction of the paints and the oils used in them (and the oil in Floetrol encourages cell development.) Hope that helps!

I would like to start by saying your creations are always stunning. I watch your videos over and over again, they are all amazing. I have had zero luck in succeeding in doing blooms or much else for that matter.I decided ti try and use the exact ingredients that you use. I went to purchase the Valspar paint and was surprised there was 3 bases. Do you always use baser c or does it vary depending on the colours you are using? Thank you so very much for sharing your knowlerge and for all the videos you have done.

Hi Lisa. It’s pretty but I kinda liked it before you spun it 😀 Got a question: the pillow you used, did you actually use black house paint or did you use something else for that color? One more thing: I find it’s much easier to disperse the pigments first in about a tablespoon of either your mix or JoSonja. Then when you add your mix it’s very fast to combine because your pigments are basically paint at that point. You can get all the granules mixed in super well with mixing the small amount first. At least that works for me.

Hello Lisa !! I look your mix for the first time. I have a question for you. The valspar is very liquid and blank? Is dry transparent? is like the satin enamel Behr 8300? But this binder is soooooo thick comparated to Valspare...😂😂 It's just for verify my PM. And think than I have find why you have the paint more liquid for the bloom dutch. 🥰❤ Your results are soooo amazing when you do the bloom dutch. Is it important to verify the transparency of the paint for do bloom flower? Thank you so much to help me sweet Lisa. ❤❤❤
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you as always for your kind words, Caroline! No, the Valspar is very thick like the Behr brands and has no added pigment but does have a natural, light yellowish color from the ingredients in it. If your bloom mix seems too thick, try adding Floetrol or JoSonja varnish to thin it out a bit. Even though Floetrol is not thin, it helps the paints move around and go farther because of the oils in it. The brand of base paint you use doesn't matter but the climate you live in does affect how the paints work together.

No, the black satin enamel base is much thinner. I mix 1 part DecoArt black satin enamel with 1 part Artist Loft Soft Body black. To that mix, I add 2-4 parts Floetrol, then a few drops of water if needed.

When I mix my paint and varnish 1:1 it is thick like pudding what can I do to thin it out it will not blow out this thick. I live in AZ could that be why?
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt Жыл бұрын
Pudding is exactly how it should be but if you don't have a hair dryer to blow it with, try adding US Floetrol until it moves more easily. The other option is to use the much thinner JoSonja varnish instead of the triple gloss...this will result in a much thinner mix.

@@HarmonyHouseArt thank you and this pudding is pudding that mounds up upon itself and slips off the stir stick in a dollop. Perhaps I’ll try the other varnish and see how that works. Thank you so much for your inspiration and advise. It’s much appreciated.

I know this is probably a stupid question but are these bloom ingredients safe to use in the house? I actually have a painting room downstairs near the furnace so have to be very careful with fumes. As much as I love the bloom technique I'm afraid to. Any suggestions?

Hi Diane, I think it's a reasonable question and I'm not aware of any danger associated with the ingredients I use. When it comes to varnishing your pieces, I would suggest you take them outside because of the strong fumes.

@@HarmonyHouseArt Isn't the Valspar Base C considered house paint even though it is untinted. It is confusing me. Your PM uses Valspar + Varuthane + tube paint or pigments. So, what is the Pillow? Is it the same exactly as your mix for PM? Because I am understanding that the two ingredient mix is for you Pillow as well as for your Pouring Medium. Correct? And I thought that the Pillow should be a little thicker than the PM and the CA is even a little thinner than the PM. Is that correct please?
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt 2 жыл бұрын
@@ItsVick I use the 2-ingredient mix for the colors and the base (pillow) and I leave them roughly the same thickness...that's how I do it. Everyone seems to have to find their own way with the blooms. Even if you have the same exact ingredients, your pour may react differently due to the climate you live in, specific paints used, etc. I just happen to NOT love house paint though I know that's what many use for the pillow (straight from the can!) You will have to experiment to see what works for you.

Hi Diane, the un-tinted base is semi gloss and the polyurethane is triple gloss. But, I don't think a glossy base or less glossy varnish would make too much of a difference. It's more art than science and I think there's room for experimenting!

What is your ratio between pouring medium and tube paint
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amanda! I don't measure things out but am guessing it's probably about 1 part paint to 2-3 parts of the 2-ingredient pouring medium. With tube paint, I also have to add a little floetrol since the mix is so thick.

When you buy the tintable paint, you don't get them to shake it either correct? You just take it home and mix it yourself I've heard.

Hello from The Netherlands.I made many paintings but never tried this technique because i don,t know what to buy. I,m afraid to ask stupid questions but...interior paint like you use Valspar with a primer in it isn,t available here i guess, Is it wallpaint , a latex? Hope you can give me some clarity on this, thank you in advance, maybe the other products are available on Amazon, love your work👍
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt Жыл бұрын
What I use to make the pouring medium is the tintable base paint that stores use to mix custom color paints with. They start with a tintable base which has no pigment added and that is what I use. I just tell the stores I'm making my own custom colors. I mix half of the tintable base with half of either Josonja varnish or triple gloss varnish. It will be a very thick mix but you can thin it with more of the Josonja. If you don't have a store nearby that can custom mix paint, you may be able to find a tintable base on Amazon and I know you can find the varnishes there. Best wishes! PS- I think they are probably latex bases.

This recipe is for the bloom technique only. For swipes, like video 726, the paints must be much thinner. Even though I ended up blowing the colors out, I was using a thinner mix. Here is that formula: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX3RdICZbd2bes0si=TPol1ZGbkX8yP1Q5

@@debbiefiremanmarr7225 Of Floetrol? That depends on the paint- tube paint is heavier and will need more Floetrol than pigments or liquid paints like Golden or DaVinci.
