Hi, ma'am please guide me.... how much kg tomato puree is required to make Indian vegetable for an entire month? How long can a purree last ? Do you need to cook puree?
@lifeadmin365 Жыл бұрын
Hi Chritina.. sorry for the late reply. I typically use between 3-4 pounds of tomato puree a month for all of my curries (so about 1.25 - 1.5 kg of tomato puree, not tomatoes). We get ready made puree containers in US, but if you are using fresh tomatoes and assuming you use about 1/2 -3/4 cup puree for making a curry that will server 4-5 people, you will need anywhere between 2.0 - 2.5 kg of fresh tomatoes. You will have to peel the skin by blanching tomatoes in boiling water for 2 minutes (optional) and removing the seeds along with some pulp to get about 1-1.5 kg of fresh puree. Once you puree the tomatoes in blender, strain it through a strainer/mesh (if skin isnt peeled) and portion in 4-5 freezer safe containers or bags...when ready to use, defrost each portion and add it your curry and cook as you typically would. Fresh puree in airtight container, will stay good in the refrigerator (4-5 deg C temperature) for about 4-5 days.. Also, IMO, there is no need to cook tomato puree unless you are making basic masala gravy (onions, tomatoes, ginger-garlic and spices) and portioning it out and freezing it. HTH.

Mam, a quick tip....add potato's first before adding tomatoes ...add little salt as you add potato's. When we add sourness (tomato's) it takes more time to soften potato's.

I hear you. I had been doing sort of meal prep as a graduate student and then somehow I forgot about it😫...Fast forward 15 years and all of it came back to me just like that 😅 but by then my oldest one was in middle school😂 since then I have been meal prepping and freezing... KZbin, courtesy of COVID-19😂, just showed me that others are also doing it on much larger scale and sharing it with others...

Hi Saki 👋 you are welcome ☺️ that’s a million dollar question and solution is not so easy.. I always shower after cooking and change into fresh clothes. Also, most of the times, I will use an air freshener and spray my couches/chairs with Febreeze, which helps a lot.. febreeze is fabric freshener… hope this helpful 😁
