Some artists just transcend rock music and become so uniquely legendary through their material. No laser beams, no smoke machines, no dancers. Ray Davies (and The Kinks) were these artists. This is a festival audience and they know the lyrics to his songs. Some not yet born when they were hits. Absolutely stunning. Ray never fails to send chills down my spine. Bless you Ray Davies.

Absolutely. Tho" I have no doubts that had Kinks been part of the first of second wave Britpop (ie Blur or Franz Ferdinand) they would've donned all the confetti required, and fitted in perfectly (Just try, mention one Kinks song that does not befit the Britpop Saga. . .)

Sir Ray Davies. Has a nice ring to it. Most songwriters would be lucky to write three or four classic songs during their career. Ray must have written at least 50. Many of the B sides of The Kinks songs are stunning and still sound fresh more than 50 years after they were written. God Bless Ray Davies and The Kinks. They make me proud to be British. Pete Quaife R.I.P. A superb musician. Just listen to the riffs he played.

Indeed. And in 2010 he could go for a couple of hours. I saw him in a small theater in Chicago in March of 2010. He did a long acoustic set solo, with a lot of audience participation. Then he brought out a band and went through all the Kinks hits, and did Lola for an encore. I was hoarse for 2 days from the sing along.

Anyone else cry when Ray tears up at 4:08? I was already a huge Ray Davies and The Kinks fan as a young teen in the early 70s when not many of my friends were listening to him/them. And I was glad of that, because the music felt more personal for me. I was glad that no huge tidal wave of popularity was taking The Kinks away from me. I didn't have to share them with people who just hopped on board the next "popular-to-like-so-an-so" train. When Ray wrote "Misfits" he wrote it for me. And for all of you here commenting on this page, my fellow Misfits. I remember purchasing the Kinks Kronicles double album at my town's record store. I was about 13 years old at the time and the girl behind the counter (an older 18-sh year-old girl with a dirty girl look and a sweater full of goodies and whom I was secretly madly in love with) made sort of an odd face when I handed her the album. She looked at it, flipped it over a few times, then just looked at me and said, "You know this is a double album, right?" I guess she thought a little squirt like me didn't know what I was buying and didn't have the money for it. Lol! I opened it up the moment I got home, listened to it a thousand times on my record player while reading the print right off the liner notes! I got to see The Kinks on several occasions, once at a smaller venue in Upstate NY in 1981 and had the honor of shaking Ray's hand from the general admission first row that I had managed to move up to. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Mr. Davies. And no, Ray, you're "not like everybody else". God Save The Kinks!!

What a songwriter Ray is. Just look at the catalogue of his songs that have been covered by other artists. These renditions of two of his beautiful songs moved me to tears.
