Just got it, and i receive way faster speeds. Outside 400 to 700 mbps and inside 200 to 400 down. Great product.

nice product! appreciate the detailed instructions to mount the bracket! Position is clearly a factor for speed tests! Good one! cheers!

Alright, Tone. Yes, you are absolutely correct, position is a huge factor for speed. This is the problem that many people have when they complain about poor speeds, they’ve simply not optimised the position for the router, whether it’s an outside or indoor one. And many people make the same mistake with external antennas as well. Plus, many people use indoor antennas, which are effectively only going to perform similar to the built in antennas of the router. When these things are all setup properly and you are in a location for a good cell tower signal, you can really get very fast 5G speeds. The best I’ve had so far with my setups is just over 500Mb/s download and 70Mb/s upload. While you can get faster than this with fibre etc. Where I live I can’t get fibre or cable and my best land line option is 30Mb/s down and 8Mb/s up. So, as you can see, a wireless 5G router setup is awesome for someone in my position. Plus, you can always take your router to other locations, which you can’t do with any permanently connected wired/fibre system. Cheers buddy, Dave.

Luckily I've never had to deal with 5G for home use. I've only got 1 friend that has to use it because their property isn't serviced by any hard wired provider. Pretty horrible service. They can barely watch Netflix on a single device. Until a few months ago I've always had coax cable internet. My neighborhood was dug up a year ago to install fiber optic underneath everyone's front yards. Since my cable internet was constantly going down unannounced for maintenance(daily usually around midnight), I switched to the fiber. My 1 gig fiber has not gone down once so far. I asked the fiber company before switching if they do routine maintenance. They confirmed they do, but it should never affect the end user. So far it's been true. The only issue with fiber is they have to get creative when routing the cable throughout your home. You can't put any sharp bends in it.

Alright, Mike. Where I live we can only get traditional broadband on a phone line, about 30Mb/s down and 8 up, this is why I use 5G. My main problem with 5G is not the service it’s trees. In this video when I shown the placement of the router outside you can see a load of tall trees. At the moment the trees are full of leaves and they interfere with my 5G. Although, I’m quite far from the 5G cell tower, I’m pretty much in line of sight. When the winter comes and the trees shed their leaves, my signal is pretty awesome. I have a short mast on my balcony that has three antennas on it. One 2x2 5G and two 2x2 4G. I use these for testing various routers. Late last year I started working with Router-Mods, the company mentioned in the video. They send me routers that they modify for external antenna usage and I do videos about them. When the trees are bare, I can get around 600Mb/s download and about 70 up with some of the modified routers and the external antennas. Even indoors with a standard router using its own inbuilt antennas, I can get around 200/30 down and up depending on the trees. I know this all sounds like a pain in the arse but it’s my best option. Here in the UK we can get an unlimited 5G data sim for about £22 per month, which is about $27 US. This is actually a very good price, especially when you use loads of data like I do. However, it obviously doesn’t compare to 1GB fibre. I actually used to use my phone and tether, which was great for price as I obviously didn’t need a router and the data was part of my phone’s sim plan. But a dedicated 5G router is more convenient. I can’t remember now if you are in the U.S.A or Canada but over here. It’s actually quite competitive for sim only plans if you don’t have a phone and sim on contract. Because of this, I always buy my phones and then just get a sim on contract. The only other drawback using cellular internet is the latency. I typically have about 60ms connecting to game servers, which isn’t ideal. However, when I game I connect my switch to the landline phone internet and get about 20ms. Where I used to live I was on fibre to the cabinet then coax to the door. This was about 500/50 but the latency was only about 11ms. BTW. I used to have a commercial music studio and was at the start of the move from analogue to digital audio production in the early 90s. I had an early digital production setups with a digital desk and digital multitrack. This was on multiple optical connections between the desk, multitrack and some of the outboard. And yes, optical cables are a proper pain to install, although, super convenient. Anyway. As far as gaming is concerned. Hopefully I’m lucky and can get my order in quick next week for the new Pro Max straight after the Apple event. I wasn’t successful last year with the 14. Seriously, I was on the Apple site as soon as it went live and all the Pro Maxes sold out super quick and I didn’t want to wait another 6 to 8 weeks for the next stock so I didn’t bother. I’m really interested to see what can be done with the new USB C Thunderbolt port on Pro/Pro Max. I may have sorted a collaboration with a company that does Thunderbolt enclosures, hubs, HDMI capture interfaces etc. If this comes off, I will hopefully be testing desktop setups for controller and monitor with the Pro Max and direct to Mac capture. First game to test will be WZM. I’ll be proper disappointed if I miss out on the preorder for the phone 😂 Cheers buddy, Dave.

@@DavidHarry I live in the U.S. in Arizona. I never knew that about tree leaves affecting 5G. I have weak service out here anyway. I also don't have tall trees in my yard anymore. I'm on T-Mobile, but Verizon has far stronger coverage. However I'm on a $35 plan no contract. I believe my wife's Verizon is $155 for unlimited data. Good luck on the 15 Pro Max.

Does anyone know how many meters away a MC889 /MC7010/ router can pick up a signal from an ISP cell? I have previously used the Ubiquiti NanoStation M2 and it could pick up a signal up to 14 km away.

Hey, i got a few questions. How far away are you from the 5g cell tower? Do you have clear line of sight to the tower? Thanks for the video!
@DavidHarry
@DavidHarry 9 ай бұрын
Hi, David. Just over a mile away. I don’t have a completely unobstructed direct line of sight. There are trees between me and the tower, which massively effect the signal at different parts of the year when the trees have their leaves and there are some buildings that just creep into my line of sight. However, I am high up which definitely helps. Cheers, Dave.

Interesting, do you think you could cell lock to the same main as the outdoor test? To try force 5G. I've needed to do this before on the mc801a, it would not normally pick up 5g but gets over 500mbps dl once I cell lock. Also can you use any indoor router ax3000 or does it need to be ZTE to work. Thanks!

Hi. I’ve not yet found any way to cell lock any ZTE router. I also use Huawei routers and there’s an Android app that allows you to select the available cell towers and band lock. Yes you can use any WiFi router, it does not need to be ZTE. I use it connected direct to my Mac via Ethernet. Cheers, Dave.

@@DavidHarry Amazing thank you. I would Google your model and javascript developer mode and you should be able to find out how to cell lock most ZTE 5G routers by accessing developer mode. It's a huge help when you find a cell main that works best for you and don't want it to adjust or change

Use Apple's USB-C adapter which has HDMI+USBC+USBA in it, the latest version of that adapter does 4K/60Hz, if you use any third party HDMI adapter then you will have Audio or Video issues into Elgato/OBS. All HDMI cables in the loop need to be HDMI 2.0b (19Gbps) or higher.
