you really hit the nail on the head with theme discussion, i think. a lot of fantasy authors these days have the issue that they have a strong idea for a theme and interesting, complex worldbuilding, but their thesis is so grounded in the context of our modern sensibilities that they have to make their main character feel like a person plucked out of a 2024 Women Studies 101 college class to make it work and it ends up feeling so disingenuous

Hi! Just want to give a huge thanks for your channel! I listen while working nightshifts doing repetitive and boring labour, and your videos help me a lot! I get to learn so many cool historical facts and makes me think on cool plot and themes for my RPG campaigns. Extremely helpful!

Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm glad to have found your channel. It has so many videos with good content that I still have to watch. It's kinda sad that the algorithm is sleeping on you but someday I think you'll get the attention for your excellent videos you deserve. And thank you for having made and still making such interesting viedeos as it really helps me in my wordbuilding project.

I think part of the problem is that I make diverse content and the algorithm doesn’t know quite who to show it to. But it’s starting to come right so maybe this year :)

I really appreciate your honesty about the evolving process. We don't build, write or live in a vacuum. This was fascinating and helpful and esp. encouraging that you don't have to be Perfect - you do have to grow, and if you stick with it, you will.

Oh, chatting about worlbuilding and our worlds! I SO recognize that! When in livestreams, someone asked me one tiny thing about my world, I could give them a whole lecture (in a good way :D ) about it. So, I happily listen to other authors do the same! I just put all three books of the Sangwheel Chronicles on my wishlist :)

Fallout New Vegas is a perfect example of having a theme that's in world like it's not commentary in real life

I cannot agree more about theme. Without it the fiction always feels flat to me. Writers seem to often get that right, but in the TTRPG space that is something people barely use.

Do you think your own instinctual embedding of themes into your world was stronger or weaker than your deliberate usages? And how true do you think that is for most writers?
@JustInTimeWorlds4 ай бұрын
So for me, it's made it stronger. I still use my instincts, but I also consciously look for places to embed the theme deeper and that (IMO) enhances the story. I'm not sure about other writers, but I think the important part is not to lose the instinct, but to hone it with knowledge.

I'm working on a Star Trek X Assassin’s Creed Crossover-like Fan Fiction, one where the Templars have Control over Starfleet, but only from the Shadows... using Starfleet to Hunt Down the Remaining Assassins' Decedents Also, I Added Hardlight Technology for Most of the Human Decedent Civilizations in this Crossover, which can be made into quite the Hidden Blade Variant for the Assassins The Assassin's Clearly Represent Freedom and the Templars Represent Order, as do two certain Factions in Star Trek, Namely the Bajorans and the Vulcans being Analgias to the Assassins and Templars Respectively in this Crossover The Central Theme is the Conflict between Freedom and Order and trying to Survive and Mitigate the Violence that come with it What are Your Thoughts?
@JustInTimeWorlds5 ай бұрын
This sounds like an amazing crossover concept. I love the idea of Templars secretly controlling Starfleet. The hardlight technology sounds fascinating. Perhaps you could explore the role of the Klingons as a wildcard faction that neither aligns with the Templars nor the Assassins? They could play the role of a mirror to your theme, reflecting either order or freedom, depending on which side they find most appealing.
@tabbywolf8015 ай бұрын

When it comes to politics in books or games one thing you could do is Ferguson on in World politics like your theme about the 1800s focus on 1800 the sad fact is if you mentioned in real life politics someone's going to get upset I don't like it but that seems to be the way it is at least for now
@presleybaldwin37565 ай бұрын
Yeah, it definitely takes skill to write politics. The reason people are sick of political agenda's in stories is due to really poorly skilled writers who think they're superior to everyone else.
@JustInTimeWorlds4 ай бұрын
Also studios who are churning out way too much content with way too little time spent on the writing.
