SU was better than last year, but still had tempo issues and the trumpets just dont have a mature sound. You can hear what i mean when they have to play soft. Boom's sound is vibrant and full. Don't get me wrong, SU would kill any other school with the songs they played. But Boom had a great comeback for every song SU played and they executed.

Yeah… I agree, I liked the sound from that view also. Getting folks to understand that on the other hand was a different thing. People seemed to be under the impression that because it was from the side it someone wasn’t up to par etc 🤷🏾‍♂️. Depending on the acoustics of the stadium audio from the side can give a more intense sound each band. This is a bad example, but it’s similar to marching under the bridge in New Orleans… it can be that type of difference, versus recoding open air or directly in front of the band.

I got Jackson but I feel like this was closer than what it should have been based on players alone. Their sound was more consistent throughout and cleaner than SU but it’s kinda like you getting one flavor since they only got one arranger in front of the band. I think a BOTB benefits SU and Jackson should be careful. I don’t know how the funding is but Jackson needs to add a couple more directors to that staff. S/o to both sides for putting this together so early in the season.

I’ll share a few free-form thoughts. Wow, this was one great classic!

Southern receives huge ups for its continual increase in passion, commitment, and valor! JSU’s first selection was a beautiful choice. 14:00 - 16:23 I loved the woodwind feature. it showed a different side of the set. integrating additional dynamics will take this piece from bulb to blossom. The reply after 16:40 was crazy. Then, Southern upped their intensity. But then the juggernaut appeared. 16:37 - 16:40 = Perfect opening. Sure, it’s a set of a single note note but that one set was noteworthy! The rest of the selection goes on to be something that would ordinarily function as a world-eating behemoth. JSU issued an appropriately leveled reply. Both bands had great selections. Southern’s approach made a difference! From 35:58 - 37: 26 the Southern Standard barreled through a wall into the dining room. Though, you met a juggernaut for dinner. That’s not a bad thing. There’s an excellent conversation going on! I can say that this juggernaut is about as poetic and as stubborn as they come. Then, there was the final selection. Something was unleashed from another world against which most would simply pray for survival. #NeverSatisfied #LetsGoHAM #BandRocks #Season2024 🤍💙💛

I can’t believe y’all call yourselves “BANDHEADS” yet y’all wanna blame the game’s date 📅 for the reason your favorite band failed to impress you. I’d rather someone blame the hurricane/weather affecting the effectiveness of pre-game practices. SU and ASU literally met on game 1 last season and the energy from the exchange was higher than this the entire game. It being “too early” in the season shouldn’t be an issue for Boombox.
