BTW it's more to battles than power. Song selection and song placement is key as well. Having a diversified playbook is KEY in 5th quarters too!

One of the most historical moments of all time Southern came in and really blessed the building Lsu showed out and stood strong I know they rehearsed that but my goodness the matador and mercy were both incredible. If these two schools got together more I know they could solve all the worlds problems cuz these bands is incredible

Yeah but didn't have to bunch us tight like that and not giving the Dancing Dolls room to dance. We were treated like strangers and we're not. Southern Jukebox and the Dancing Dolls are known Nationwide and everyone wants to see us perform. I hope that LSU can learn from this by playing against an HBCU school and feeling this type of atmosphere and knowing that they missed out all these years when we're just next door neighbors.

It's not about how packed the stadium is, when that game was scheduled.. the whole band should have had their place in the stadium...then the ticket holders can buy their tickets around the band. LSU didn't sound better than FSU last week, so I don't know where you get that from. FSU is use to playing against HBCU bands. Southern was LSU First. So in the 5th Quarter.. LSU didn't have to run away that far and be so high in their own stadium away from the Jukebox.🤣

@@ljsmixbox44 no offense is not really about what you're used to. Pwi bands have no soul. It doesn't matter how many black people are in their bands. Their arrangements are often off so the sound may be nice and smooth but often that's not what the song denotes. It usually has that Jimmy cracked corn feel. As a musician who went to a high school whose band patterned after Texas a&m i know how they tell you to play and how many rules there are. frankly it's why pwi bands can't do the things hbcu bands can. Really pwis only have volume dynamics. They can't play gritty they can't play hood they can't really do sexy and sensual that well they surely struggle with funk and soul we won't get into blues jazz or brass band. It's about more than what notes are on the page. I bet you could go in fsu band room right now and nobody could sing you the verse lyrics to any songs they whip out for the hbcu "battles" is because they probably haven't heard the real song to even have reference. I doubt lsu has ever heard neck or knows any of cameos other songs. I've asked pwi students and fans have you ever heard that song your singing? Several replied is a real song? That my dear is why it isn't about what you're used to.

the scary part is that SU is just a wall of sound with every selection and how they execute their selection so for them to play against LSU was a good battle we wanted for years and hopefully they would get invite LSU to a few BOTB cause they are worthy of that good showing for both bands which brings me to point #2 which is JSU v SU BoomBoxClassic those 2 monsters are gonna def rock the house and turn up cause we heard what SU and JSU sound like...... and we know they gonna rip through every band in the SWAC TXSU PVAMU ASU Alcorn MSVSU UAPB BCU FAMU and anyother band in the SWAC

I think it would be insane to invite LSU to a Battle of the SWAC Band. It would be unkind. No one wants to be humiliated. I know some people would be nice but they would be OUT OF PLACE.I think they would be better appreciated battling a MEAC band. They definitely can't show up w/sheet music (on cards) clipped to the end of their instruments like some have here.

Amazing how with the disadvantage of mic proximity and bias, LSU with the dog walk. Sure SU is only feet away while LSU is hundreds of yards away but watching and hearing this on other feeds, the Tigers knew what this was about. Props to SU for doing the usual but even LSU's dance team was choreographed to each song.

There are many other videos where the mic is very close to LSU. Check 'em out. It doesn't make a difference. And, I would not call what the LSU dancers did choreography. Their like USM's dancers. Lots of hand gestures & staying upright & smiling. I was truly creeped out by the USM's dancers. 30 young women lined up in short black dresses - too funeral for me.

Dude! SU will do concerts after PWI/DCI football games. To date only a few of those bands have had the courage or competitive spirit to ACTUALLY BATTLE. Troy University challenged the Juke last year. They were great but maybe IN AWE OF SU & a little too excited to focus. I think they consider themselves to be the "Hip Hop Band" among PWI/DCI bands. After the UNM & UTSA games, SU gave a short concert. SWAC bands BATTLE before & AFTER football games - the ZERO & FIFTH Quarters. The football match has 4 quarters. These SWAC band battles have six-sections - March in, Zero, Stand battle, Half-tiime, Fifth, & Marching out. LSU IS NOT READY for that. You can't repeat a song. SU learns over 100 songs a season. Plus they have that 3-D Sound & great musicianship. No band wants to see them pull up - except Tro who met them in the parking lot. SU & JSU (Boombox Classic) have battled for 64-years though their first match-up was in 1929. The Bayou Classic Battle turns 90-years old this year.

I agree..Both bands are good. LSU was probably slightly out of thier element but they showed alot of character by attempting to show versatility. Simply a cultural emphasis among top tier HBCUs...related to arrangments and power. It takes chops to play forticimo like Southern. Diversity and culture should not but subjected to scrutiny be either side. Almost like comparing apples to oranges.

@MurdazFlicks No, I have never been to an LSU game. Someone has already told me that is where the visitors are seated. It's pretty crazy if you ask me.. When LSU is seated so high, whenever they have a halftime performance to do. It must take the whole band at least a good 15 minutes to get to the ground level.🤣 SU jukebox played at Georgia in 2015, when the Bulldogs played against Alabama. They gave SU a nice spot for the band, and the dancing dolls were not on the ground like when they played LSU. UGA had more respect for the jukebox than LSU.

I think LSU had the best Band Sound because of good intonation, great technique, excellent separation of voices, great balance/blend and good instrumental characteristic tones natural to the individual instrument in the band. And most of all easy listening for the audience.

Easy listening for what audience? There's a reason why they've performed for the NBA, NFL, Sugar Bowl, and in Las Vegas before a Merriweather fight. Oh yeah, the 4 presidential inaugurations, most trips to the Super Bowl, etc. SU has a Symphony Concert Nad, Windwind Symphony, Saxophone Ensemble, and more. SU is FAMOUS for their 4D sound. It is everywhere & includes [to quote you] good intonation, great technique, excellent separation of voices, great balance/blend and good instrumental characteristic tones [they play on the higher end] natural to the individual instrument in the band. They are a step ahead of LSU's band b/c after they achieve what that band has then they learn HOW TO ADD POWER. SU had a dozen more dynamic elements and portions of each song featured ONE section. LSU did not do that. After football season, they devote themselves to concert band and parades and perform at special requests. Unfortunately, I doubt there is an audience in the SWAC that would take LSU seriously. Maybe in the MEAC - yes. In 2013, NCAA ranked them as #2. Years ago, their concert performed in NY at the Radio City Music Hall for three weeks & all show sold out. What has LSU done?.

SU is amazing but all it sounds like are those kids that just take those trumpets at parades and blow them really loud in their ear, LSU is just easier to listen to. Then again very unfair because SU is just gonna be really loud while LSU is over there playing good music but you can't enjoy that because the video is recorded all the way on the other side. I understand both points. PWI fans don't want to hear ballads from HBCU bands unless it's a rock or pop ballad. They want to hear the upbeat arrangements. The real ballads will be saved for "us." As the season progresses, my hope is that the directors will know which songs belong in the zero quarter and ones that belong in the 5th. This became apparent to me last season. I hope they play more slow/mid tempo ballads during the 5th this season. I still miss Haymer and Brian at SU, Lord knows I do, but I'm already seeing improvements this season. I have faith that the directors will get it right.
