So it’s an interesting balance. You have to appear similar if you’re crew or imp; so if you do lights all the time as crew, or you go hard against imps, you’re also going to have to do that as imp and that will make your imp game harder. So in choosing your “personality” that you play you also have to decide if it leans more towards crew or imp victories. By going under storage consistently Junk has more freedom to do that as imp. People like Sykkuno (the throwback) played a jester-like persona regardless of his role, which really helped as imp but means that he lost more as crew.

This is exactly why Jester is such a brilliant role. People tunnel so hard on nothing, and then they get punished. Without it, there’s no drawback to just voting someone out and it sucks for that player. With it, it forces the players to actually think about who they vote out

I disagree. You don’t need the jester to have a drawback for voting someone out. For example, voting someone out on 7 with two *potential* imposters, voting someone out on 4, and generally voting someone out knowing they could simply be crewmate. There are drawbacks to voting out anybody in a game like this because the point of voting is to get imposters out. Without the jester it’s an interesting “It could be one of those two.” “Which one should we vote out first?” With the jester possible in the ladder scenario, it then turns into “Oh I don’t know who to vote because these two could be a jester and imposter.” The “neutral” role is very advantageous for imposters because the duo or trio need less informative meetings and when the jester is simply there, it turns into “Oh, she could be jester.” and all that line is for me is a dumb shield for imps. I remember seeing and playing games without the jester that gave imposters the opportunity to give misinformation to give attention off of them. The difference of jesters drawback is the game simply ending and with that fact, it doesn’t feel interesting or unpredictable after a while when people have to vote.

@@michaelvanmeter6984 I think the dynamic of Jester means there's no round one voting with no kills just because someone thinks someone is sus, it also helps with faking tasks and stuff for imposters because it's sometimes hard to fake a task and then what happens if you don't have enough evidence? You might vote out a jester. I think it eliminates a lot of trolling as well on people voting people out just because and gives a bit more caution as the OP said.

The whole fun of what among us is and what among us was is the thought and discussions of “I’m voting blue because he went to where lime said the body was and has been very secretive about where he went” or “I’m gonna skip because we have enough players to survive another round and get more information as a result”. With jester it can turn to “I might skip because blue went towards that body, but he could be jester because he’s not talking”, and “I’ll skip knowing lime and blue are both probably lying to each other about who went where and how, because they both can be jester and imp”. 3.) Did you fully read my comment? I can’t come up with a definitive answer because I specifically call out how the jester’s simple existence gives imposters an easy shield with “oh, she could be jester”, and non-informative meetings with little to no effort from the imps input. (Also discouraging voting a player out because they could be jester is very strange to have for a game that encourages logical reasoning. Gambling on who could be the jester is not fun. Gambling on just voting an imposter is either the fault of bad luck, or the crew not being cooperative. It should be the crews fault that the imps win eventually. The imps also take less effort on defending themselves and is not fun for me as a player from any side. You can debate the imps trying to give off attention to the third or fourth player that isn’t on your team that is acting weird when jester is on, but in that situation it’s mostly “he’s probably jester” and skip or voting a crewmate that isn’t even involved in the who’s imp or jest mystery because they are an outlier in the current deduction senario. Overall, with the jester in game, most players (especially imposters) take less effort in what they say in meetings and for what they do outside of meetings. 4.) I’m not saying jester is a bad role, I’m only proving it’s not a “necessary evil” and how it changes the game entirely and doesn’t override a vanilla or modded game without the jester. The game still has what the jest gives but it’s instead given to a third party and the game can end VERY early.

@@michaelvanmeter6984 Look, your definitions of a good group don't even apply to any of these Internet lobbies, much less 5up and the gang, there's been round one votes all the time even without proper witnesses. Again, your definition of what's fun is irrelevant to the entire conversation. You can keep saying this or that is what you believe, but the game as a whole is allowed to be played how the people playing it wants to play it. The original comment has over 100 likes, that means there's a decent amount of people that feel like Jester does make the game more fun. I agree, you shouldn't have to gamble on who's jester. That's my entire point- people DO gamble on imposters if there's no jester around and that shouldn't ever be the case. I played public lobbies and with my friends and will say that Jester 100% makes the game better in my experience, the imposters need to play smarter and have to actually create alibis, and the person accusing has to be sure and it gives imposters more time to work with instead of being voted off because of some sus movement. At the end of the day most people are playing for themselves, not for "Team" wins, and the only person you can control is yourself regularly, having something like a Jester role regulates the other players in the lobby without you having to constantly explain simple things to people, it takes less guess work out of the equation and adds more deductive reasoning. My whole point is that if you vote someone out round one then it's either tons of evidence that the person's imposter, or it's because you're memeing, and the jester cuts out the memeing and makes them game more towards the discussions to make sure people aren't voting out jesters. It regulates people that aren't thinking hard and that is a + for me because not everyone wants to put on the detective cap, and just votes with whoever sounds good, jester makes there be more pause when it comes to just straight out majority voting people and that's what I enjoy as imposter and crew.

@@Theepieguy I understand all of that. But (maybe I worded my point wrong overall in this reply thread) but jester is objectively not a “necessary evil” like I said. I see people like Platy and one of the Goose Goose Duck Devs claim that quote and get annoyed. Funny enough, the whole opinion that I hear from them (mainly GGD dev) sums down to, “oh but you can play the game however you want”, after I specifically discuss to that dev on their discord how Dodo Bird (their jester) is not necessary even, though they claim otherwise. Funny coincidence. I should mention this, you word things like the Jester does xyz like the game itself without jester doesn’t. (Pretty much an assumption on my end but it does support my hopefully clear and previous point). Which is wrong when you consider that I and many (I guarantee) still have to explain to other people that “I’m not jester” and/or “trust my admin info” or something along those lines of senarios. I and hopefully you can stop dragging this and just simply agree to disagree.
