I'm glad I'm not crazy. The signal coming off my $20 component to HDMI adapter IS incredibly dark. A fair few PS2 games are legitimately unplayable in that configuration.

Thanks everyone for watching! It has been an interesting and educating journey making content. One thing I've come to learn is the impact KZbin's Compression can have on the footage from all these Retro Enhancement Devices. Keep in mind that some detail is always lost with compression. My commentary is in response to what I've experienced from playing on my TV and watching the Raw Capture Files. I've added this info to the description of videos going forward, but wanted to post this comment to all the videos prior to that change. Thanks again for watching, I really appreciate it!

Another great video. If i could buy a new Retrotink 5x in the UK for the equivalent of £250 that would be great. As it is, shipping from the US makes it far less appealing when earning £10 an hour with a family of 4. Always great to have alternatives :)

Thanks as always for watching! I feel you regarding the shipping. I have the reverse issue with the cables I get from RetroGamingCables, getting them imported and the conversion rate haha.

For us poor folk…. The cheap option doesn’t look too bad.

I was honestly impressed by the AV2HDMI. It’s easy to assume that low price and quality are linked, and that something for $15 MUST be bad, but it was fine! For the price, you get to hook up an old console to a modern screen, and it wont look terrible. It’s better than the breakout cable for my older tv, and better than my AVR’s internal converter (which is a LOT more than $15 haha).

It messes up the picture but yeah for 15$ can't really complain. Idk what price is the rt2x mini but it's way better for 90$

I've noticed the 2xpro has better, more vibrant colors than the 5xpro. Is that just out of the box, and you can adjust the 5xpro to look as good or better, or does the 2xpro just have better coloring?
@RetroBoost8 ай бұрын
You can play around with Color Saturation in the 5X Pro's settings. It's labeled as "Color Boost." Plus your TV, whether it be just the kind of TV it is plus your settings will also have influence. As far as which is better, I'd say that's very subjective. Personally I've started not to like how strikingly bright the 2X Pro can be. Using S-Video with a 1-Chip is like a bomb going off in my face, but that's how *I* see it, its my opinion, it isn't the correct assessment. I also think that intense vibrancy can be a good thing for plenty of games too, I loved how Yoshi's Island looked to provide a recent example, but didn't like how that same brightness made King of the Monsters 2 look.
@hw50918 ай бұрын
@@RetroBoost got you. And the 2x does have a brightness setting right? Also, currently I have an nes, SNES, genesis, N64, PS2, Wii with GameCube support, and a Wii u in my game room. That's it for now. Would you say the 5xpro does a good job in being discernably improved in say the Wii(I know the 2x won't do much for it)? Or the PS2? I think you were saying the 2xpro was better in colors than the 5x, but maybe you think differently now. Tying to figure which one to get, looks like with as much as I have, maybe the 5x is likely the choice. Also my systems are not modded for RGB(N64 or nes, however I may do them eventually).

I want see retrotink 5x vs ossc
@RetroBoost Жыл бұрын
That is something on my radar. For longest time I was working on getting my cabling and organizing situation settled. It is something I will definitely do! Just need to get my hands on an OSSC. They are currently sold out, from what I can see.

It just goes to show that if you can afford it the 5X is the the way to go and to be honest I wouldn't use anything cheap in regards to an upscaler as my retro consoles would never forgive me 😀great video Mike

The RetroTink 5X pro is well worth it if you have a lot of retro consoles. I wish there was an rgb bypass for the 2-chip gpm02 SNES that gets rid of the horizontal blur.
@RetroBoost Жыл бұрын
There is, Voultar sells it. As far as compatibility with your hardware, refer to Voultar’s website for details. I came across that pretty recently. I definitely agree that the 5X Pro makes the most sense for a wide variety of consoles in a collection. Hard to justify it for one console, where other doublers/upscalers for something more simple are so much cheaper.

you can actually use RGB on n64,but you have to mod it
@RetroBoost Жыл бұрын
Yes, the N64 footage in this video is from my N64, which has an RGB mod. I recently did a video on the RAD2X Nintendo, really does an excellent job with that as the source.
