I'm seventy-nine, I failed the eleven-plus, and although my parents were disappointed they didn't make an issue of it, however, I felt it. I was ashamed, it hurt that because I got certain questions wrong I would be excluded from joining some of my friends at their new school. I went on to build a life outside the world of degrees and titles and in my own small way made a difference in the world I am part of, but I know of many others who having been literally branded as second class refused to join the new world and lived off it rather than contributing to it.

First rate. The other aspect is the effect of inequality upon brain biochemistry (neurochemistry): inequality increases the level of stress hormones (such as the steroidal molecule, cortisol) in the blood streams of everyone, 'rich', poor middle income alike. Even if not equally alike. Since cortisol, for example, is generated in our bodies on the same biochemical pathways as the sex hormones, testosterone and the estrogens, it is my speculation that stress influences the 'natural' functionings of such sex hormones. Detrimentally.
@dsap40044 жыл бұрын
All those stress hormones you are talking about only matter if all you do is worry about your station in life. Studies have also found that the effects of income inequality on your hormones can be easily mitigated by being a productive member of society and being a leader at something in your life. Whether you are the captain of your local volleyball team or president of your own club it really doesn't matter that you aren't a billionaire. Also, if all you do as a billionaire is compare yourself to people with more than you you will have the same hormone issues. It's not the income inequality that's the issue, it's the way people deal with it.

After watching this I think a considerable factor in wealth inequality would be students getting into long term debt to get an education and getting this nonsense in return, only to find it is a very skewed view of how capitalism actually works in the real world. They should demand a refund!

people don't understand that capitalism provides freedom, even the freedom to make poor decisions. The problem with this is the un-capitalistic way these students are valued after they graduate and are propped up to a large degree by large over regulated corporations who love to make anti competitive legislation by lobbying congress. They have diversity hires and entire departments wasting resources on eco stress in the workplace(real thing look it up). It's a total shit show to even call it capitalism at this point. They are being sold communism through the lens of what previous generations of capitalism have built before them, and being told if they just give up the freedom of ownership and free exchange then they will be welcomed into the secret commune of the rich....and it's a lie.

Brexit is a reestablishment of democracy in Britain and a turn away from Capitalism, yet Dorling opposes Brexit or at least says it was foolish.
@gregorious1233 жыл бұрын
there's many disagreeable aspects of the EU but to pretend it's a reestablishment of democracy means you swallowed whole the right wing press narrative. It was never about democracy rather a shift away from pesky EU regulations. Britain is a neoliberal corporate state and Brexit was driven by the Sovereign Individual thesis that Rees Mogg's old man wrote. It actively welcomes the breakdown of regulations allowing privileged upper strata with huge wealth to accumulate more. And when the media in the UK is one of the most concentrated & undemocratic in Europe, of course they will promulgate a narrative that it was 'taking back control'. Demagogues always use simplistic slogans to steer the masses and wave their magic wand to make people believe there's easy solutions to complex issues. To suggest that Brexit is a turn away from Capitalism is astonishing... You honestly think that Brexit = more socialism or more regulated capitalism? Please elaborate. That's going to be interesting to hear. .
@3506Dodge3 жыл бұрын
@@gregorious123 No, you misunderstand. Brexit is a reestablishment of Democracy IN BRITAIN. I was saying nothing about the political characteristics of the EU. I do see the EU as an expression of classical liberalism, an ironically British idea.

@@3506Dodge "democracy" in your sense of the word = more deregulation and less accoutability. You were sold a pup. Even Vote Leave didn't think it would win but funded by rapid flows of dark money it managed to construct a powerful narrative that aided by rabid right wing press in the UK hoodwinked the voters. @3506Dodge3 жыл бұрын
@@gregorious123 I don't know why you address those comments to me. That's not my understanding of democracy. The motives of brexiteers and the democratizing of Britain are two separate things. Some Brexiteers were genuinely motivated by the idea of returning meaningful economic power to Britain, that is, connecting democracy and economics more closely in Britain. What you're definition of democracy might be, I haven't a clue.

@@3506Dodge look, I totally agree there was a noble argument and case for Brexit but that's not what was delivered nor what the UK is getting now. To suggest otherwise is cognitive dissonance.
