Back in 1977, I remember paying 10 cents a pack for these at Walgreens by my house. They were never priced and the ladies at the register would say, "Well, 10 cards and 1 cent per card, so 10 cents".

@@c.j.t7269 - def alot less! 370 and its in excellent condition. Better than the box opening except the Dawson looks better. People love to rip boxes but the reality is its a waste of $$ really . 6 grand for a box w/ dups or 370 for entire set? I've love to rip but it's soooo inflated and ridiculously priced . I've been flushing $$ into vintage sets as they hold value and VG investment..

Breaks like this remind me of my childhood. Running into the gas⛽⛽station⛽⛽ with my change to buy 2 or two packs of cards. 1977 had a really cool design as well. The team name across the top of the card in big letters. This was one of my favorite designs looking back now. The 1978's weren't bad either with the fancier cursive writing. The 1972 cards were also at the top of my list. But oh the all black cards from 1970 was it. Those were great but you NEVER EVER saw a completely mint card. The 70's bring back the "golden age" of card collecting for me. The 80's were also part of that, but you could see how the hobby was going downhill. Now I'm critical of these new boxes, cases, packs, that can run hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Just on the off chance of a 1/1 refractor card, or a autograph card, or maybe a Auto & Game worn patch insert card, again 1 of 1 or even 1 of 5? Back in the 1970's we just wanted our team. Our favorite players. Robin Yount, George Brett, Nolan Ryan, Gaylord Perry, in 1978 Paul Molitor's rookie card with was it Alan Trammell as well? Those days had some ICONIC players. Carl Yastrzemski, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, again so many more. Nowadays card collecting has gone from a normal standard kids hobby to a insanely high priced game of cat and mouse. You could say it's an investment. In many cases you'd be correct. Your betting some major money that a pack of cards, or a particular player or set, series or specialty card, insert or autographed card will be worth 5x's, 10x's, or maybe even 100x's the original value.

I had such a great time watching this! 1977 was the first year I collected baseball cards and I wish I had taken better care of them. My brother gave me two packs of 1977 baseball cards unopened for Christmas one year. No big stars out of any of them, but they were a joy to receive.

I do understand that the less and less of these that are left, the higher the price will go, but 6 grand is a stretch for that. For the actual love of the hobby, growing up in the 80s, I wish I had the money to just buy one for the joy of opening it. I remember coming across boxes of these cards at yard sales in the early 80s. Shoeboxes full, unsleeved, all in rubber band bricks, and I would still buy them because I liked how that specific set looked. Great opening. Sad it cost that much to see, but really fun to watch, and Im sure you got some joy from it. As a little kid it was so cool to see the autograph printed on, it was nice to see those again.

When I was a kid I walked into my LCS with $10 of my hard earned saved up allowance and I was looking at a few packs to buy when the vintage display caught my eye, as it always did. I've always loved vintage stuff that was just a tad before my time and the owner always noticed it. So that day he said that there was a sudden drop in prices in some of the cards I was looking at and he pretty much had to sell them right away...a George Brett and Nolan Ryan (record breaker). He said he'd give me both for $10 total even though he was normally selling them for ~$50 combined. Of course I leapt at that. His generosity allowed me to get 2 of my all-time favorite cards for a steal. Ok, so they aren't *that* valuable since they weren't mint condition or anything, but as a kid it was like I just won Mega Millions. I treasured those cards and they were always the top cards on my collection. I still have them. There's just something about vintage stuff that hits different. Now I do think that $6k for this set is wayyy overpriced, and it definitely looks like it was built with various packs from here and there, but it's still a super fun set to open. I just don't think the price justifies it because you can go out and buy the best cards and pretty much still have lots of money leftover. That's just my personal opinion, and I do love seeing these opened, but BBCE really monopolizes and pumps up the price of these like crazy and the prices will only continue to rise as the population goes down.

Just ran across this and I am just getting a flood of memories as this was the first year I ever collected cards. 15 cents a pack and countless yards mowed I spent the entire summer trying to get all 660 cards.....I finally traded a bunch of cards for Carl Yastrzemski and completed the set. Mannnnn...this set had the rookie Mark Fidrych card. Thank you for this. Btw, I ended up selling the set off about 10 years later to this sleezeball card dealer who had an ad in the paper for about a penny a card. 15 cents may seem cheap, but remember that gas was only about 45 cents a gallon and mowing one yard may get you a dollar.

I don't know if anyone else commented on this, and also don't know why more time wasn't spent by Jabs when he pulled the # 580 George Brett in the 1st pack opened and then the 2 Pete Roses. They both were fantastically centered, and a 1977 Topps George Brett 580 PSA 10 sold for $9300 earlier this year and the 1977 Topps Pete Rose PSA 10 sold for $3300 in October 2021. Jabs mentioned each when they were pulled in the packs, but that was it. He should have held each card on their sides directly in front of the camera to show how centered they were, and then had some info given to him at how much these 2 cards recently sold for in PSA 10 condition. Then, place then into One Touches. Rookies are great, but perfectly centered Hall of Famers can be equally as valuable. Too many people are looking for vintage card PSA 10 rookies, and forget that vintage cards are very difficult to pull in PSA 10 condition because of how awful Topps cut their card sheets back in the day (in addition to the card stock they are printed on being easy to ding). One reason, among all the other reasons, that cards are crashing in value, is because too many people are chasing unicorns. There are 25 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson rookie cards PSA 10 in the 42 years since this card came out, out of millions produced. Be happy with PSA 8-PSA 9 cards. It's more likely that's what you are going to find out there. And, don't spend $6000 on a 1977 Topps Wax box, ever, unless you have a You Tube Channel and are going to make all that money back by selling the packs to treasure hunters. And even more important: buy vintage rookies and hall of famers based on their PSA Population Report quantities in PSA 9 and PSA 10 if you are looking to buy and potentially sell vintage high grade cards that are PSA 9-PSA 10 quality.

A couple thoughts on why you didn't pull big cards for too many of the Better players. For starters you get 360 cards in a box but you probably only got 200 to 225 different cards. There were a lot of doubles. And it looked like this was one of those Frankenstein boxes. I say that because some of the gum was showing a lot of signs of moisture and some of the gum was exactly what you hoped you would find. But if this box was stored together for 45 years you would think all the gum would show similar oxidation in every pack. Of course Frankenstein boxes are super common. And for those who don't know what that is it's when somebody builds a box with random facts from different boxes so they have one wait box. Anyways it was a fun video.

Erik have you seen the BBCE news lately. I would stay away from future purchases. Steve Hart admitted on video to authenticating a box that had some tampered packs.

Jr Richard was a fan favorite here in Houston. He was so dominant for the short time that he played. We lost him a little while ago to a heart attack though. I don't think I'd spend $6,000 on that box though

Erm, that box is not a "certified un-tampered with" box. That's not what that label means. That would be a FASC box and this isn't a FASC box.
