The last original real unopened 1968 packs I ever saw were bought by Mr Mint Al Rosen who bought two boxes from a lady who owned a candy store in Mississippi. She would put the extra boxes in the attic after each season. She sold all her extra boxes to Rosen when she closed the candy store and retired. In that overflow of boxes were two 1968 boxes. I watched him open those boxes and he found two Ryan’s and 4 Bench rookies. I bought a Ryan and 2 Bench cards. The one Ryan he kept was perfect centered and it was PSA graded 10.

1976 was an off year for Rookie Cards. Dennis Eckersly and Willie Randolph are the best. 1968 had the Nolan Ryan and Lou Pinella Rookie Cards, as well as some interesting error cards. i just discovered your videos. Love to watch you opening old packs. I was a huge collector in the 1980s. Spent all my paper route money on baseball cards. I also have a holy grail story of finding a Redwing boot box full of cards at a flea market for $20 which contained almost month condition cards including stars and rookies from late 50s to '74. Among the great finds in that box were two Mike Schmidt rookies (one of which was sadly a bad cut) and a Nolan Ryan rookie. At one time i had every complete Topps set form 79-87 as well as most Fleer and Donrus sets 81-87. Unfortunately sold off most of my stars, rookies, and sets trying to survive college. But, I still have about 35,000 commons from the 1950s through the late 80s.

Sadly a lot of vintage packs have been searched over the years. Even the "junk wax" era packs were searched back in the day by people thinking certain cards would increase in value. The rojas damage looks like it was caused by the gum to me. A stick of gum has moisture in it no matter what..that's why the sticks dry out and break over time. The card absorbs the moisture from the gum. Not always, but it definitely happens. Certain years are notorious for dark rectangles on the back of cards where the gum was touching.

Mike, around the 4:12 mark of your video, when you look at the top edge of the pack, it seems the wax is jutting out to the side on the left, whereas the other corner looks tight and tucked. I'm no pack expert, but that struck me as fishy and perhaps a sign it had been resealed. Also, most of the wax packs I've seen opened from 40-50 years ago usually pop open easily, but both gave you a little bit of a battle. Shame the Rojas has wax, gum and water damage, but still fun to open older packs. I have a stack of unopened 1978 packs that I love because of the pack graphic of the catcher. Happy collecting!
