Swapped out the old leaking Stanadyne filter system for a new spin on filter system. Works great now and starts a lot faster.

I bought my 1984 GMC 3/4T 4X4 6.2 off the lot brand new almost 40 years ago and still have it. She’s been to Florida, Michigan, Montana, etc., etc.. 300,000 miles on her now. Replaced the engine at 250,000 because of an exploding glow plug tip which scored a cylinder. I’ve religiously added POWER SERVICE to every tank of fuel. I used Pennsoil 15W40 until the new engine. At that point, I installed an AMSOIL bypass filter assembly and switched to a full synthetic oil regimen. Biggest problems have been the starter (probably gone thru a dozen starters)… brake booster… rear end (rebuilt twice)… fuel tank… and of course, fuel filter. I went with the Delco GF647 fuel filter assembly, since it incorporates a water sensor and fuel heater than can be connected (wired) directly to the stock wiring harness. The GF647 is getting scarce now, I understand.

It's been a great truck so far. Think my break booster is going to need replaced soon. Have it in the shop right now...the TH400 is not upshifting and have done everything I know of to remedy the problem. Having a transmission guy looking at it this week.

I had the transmission rebuilt about 15 years ago. I only use the truck now to haul livestock water, so it gets about 50 miles a year on it.

Quick question what about your in-line fuel pre heater and water in fuel light on the dash? Did you just bypass them? Or not bother? Just bought a 87 k15 ad might have to do the swap out. Appreciate your help.

I'm in NW Indiana and it gets cold. I did bypass both and it starts better than it ever has. As long as it's plugged in when it's real cold it starts right up.

That's real cold...have a feeling is gonna be a cold winter everywhere this year. As long as I plug my truck in when it's real cold I have no problems starting it anymore. This filter swap has made my life so much easier.

what did you do with the return line
@woodnyardjunkie Жыл бұрын
This base has 4 ports so you can run the return on the same side.
