6.5 creedmoor power shok is definitely a good buy if your rifle likes them. The fusion bullet is awesome. Here in Canada the fusion ammo is $11 more per box over the power shok

I think a good basis for cartridge terminal ballistics comparison is to use bullet weights with similar sectional density, that should give similar penetratration if the bullet construction is the same. The smaller diameter bullet has a huge advantage in penetration at the same weight, with the downside of less frontal area to transfer energy.

I agree but I also think using similar weights also show cases the real difference in caliber alone. Generally the larger caliber will give better velocities with same weight bullets but with this factory ammo they were about the same. Penetration was also about the same, even with a higher sectional density the 6.5 only went 1.5 inches further.

I think using the common weights for the cartridge is best. 308 is most commonly loaded in 150gr for base level deer ammo and 6.5 is typically a 140gr loading. 6.5 is going to have the SD advantage most of the time since the weight to SD ratio is so much lower in the smaller calibers. To shoot a 190gr 308 vs a 6.5 140gr is just as apples to oranges because MV will be so different.

@@Snailz5 I definitely understand your point, and it is valid. Common 308 loads are 150-180, and common 6.5 CM loads are 120-140 (both calibers have heavy and light extremes well beyond this). I would compare a 180 grain 308 load to a 140 grain 6.5, and a 150 grain 308 to a 120 6.5. the smaller caliber usually has better odds of a higher sectional density because that's how physics works, and you can definitely compare a light for caliber large diameter bullet to a heavy small diameter bullet, but in a like-for-like comparison I think it's reasonable to use the same end of the spectrum for both calibers. Good discussion!

It’s funny I had a Texas White Tail run off with a lung shot using 6.5 deer season xp with no sign of exit splatter and 308 deer season xp drops them within 10 yards with the same shot placement.

The 308 certainly dumps all it's energy very quickly, so I'm sure it would create a larger wound on a lung shot.
