Just recently purchased a 65 with a blown head gasket your video is very informative on the things that I will need to rebuild it the it's a 2000 model...thanks ...and great job

Very cool these are fun trucks to work on. How many miles is on your engine. While you have it apart check the main webbings around the crank to make sure they are not cracked.
@ShadowOppsRC9 ай бұрын
If you have to take heads off I would inspect for main web cracking, and also check a main and rod bearing. Dont want to go through all that hassle and miss something or need to rip back apart.

A great video and you have a great family that was pretty nice. I would had like to have seen you. Install that cam shaft first. By laying that engine over in dropping the cam vertical. Plus paint those head gaskets with some high heat aluminum paint and installing very fast. Hopefully they were felt pro. When you had your daughter on there that reminded me of me. I did subscribe thank you keep up the good work. Take care of your family god bless all of you

Thanks for the video. I'm about in the same place with rebuilding my 6.5 Experiencing a similar experience with ARP bolts. Ordered them in December, still waiting.... Didn't know there was an alternative. Ordering Gator stud's tomorrow. This issue has been holding up engine rebuild. ARP better improve soon or they will go out of business.
@ArrowsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not really sure why it's been so hard to find head studs for the 6.5 l. ARP seems to be in stock with everything else. It could just be that these older motors are in so low of demand that it's not really worth their time to run as many production runs on them.

Nice video let me enlighten you. Take some silver or aluminum engine paint paint those head gasket. Put those heads on quick. That paint help seal head gaskets one hundred percent

Hello and thank you for this video. But at the end you skip something that I can't figure out. When installing the valve rockers, the 6.5 rebuild book says to rotate crankshaft until the "mark" is at the 2 o'clock position. Then rotate CCW 3.5 inches until the "mark" is around the 12:30 position. WTF is all that? What mark? I have a fluid dampner balancer with all kinds of marks on it. The zero mark? I am stuck and scared because it says improper install will lead to breakage. Thank you for any and all help
@ArrowsGarage4 ай бұрын
Once I had my crank and camshaft timing correct I just put the push rods in and bolted everything down I didn't do any of that rotating stuff. Obviously I rotated the engine over by hand after everything was bolted down to make sure that nothing interfered with each other.

@@ArrowsGarage thanks, that's what I thought. If the dots are lined up with the crank and cam, then it shouldn't matter.

Question for you I’m in the process of doing a 6.5 rebuild motor went bye bye. What was your rough ball park in cost for actual parts or rebuild kit you used. Thanks
@ArrowsGarage2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how deep of a rebuild you're doing. This engine had MAHLE Pistons from a previous rebuild that were in good shape so I did not have to fork out the extra $1,000 for pistons. All in all just in parts for the engine I would say I spent around $1,500 and that includes machine shop work. Total on the build I probably spent around $5,000 but that's a lot of extra parts, fuel system components, manual transmission, new clutch, etc. So it really depends on what all you're doing in your rebuild.

if you put in main studs, you need to line hone the crank journals because it flexes differently! gonna spin a bearing!
@ArrowsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Guy at the machine shop who's been doing this for 30 years said that as long as you put the proper size bearings in it and you plasti gauge them and everything is within spec there is nothing to worry about.
@FrostyBravo2 жыл бұрын
@@ArrowsGarage interesting to hear different perspectives! i have read an article about why studs are better than bolts and the reason is because with a bolt part of the tightening torque is going into twisting the bolt shaft since the head of the bolt is connected to it. with studs your only squeezing and therefore getting a tighter clamp. I talked to a few master techs when I worked at Honda and they all said it should be done because your taking a risk of the two ends of each bearing getting pushed up against each other and overlapping. I want to put studs in mine that im building right now but im going to reuse the factory bolts just incase, mines even more budget then yours lol. cant wait to see how yours turns out! there isnt enough content on yt about 6.5s, keep the videos coming! Thanks! ps: checkout Quadstar tuning, they sell main studs and head studs that is not arp, but they are a respected brand in the community from what ive read. also checkout the 6.5 facebook groups, lots of good info.
@shadowopsairman1583 Жыл бұрын
@@FrostyBravo application dependent also room constraints, tty bolts are used as they will stretch and harden to the torque spec, also there are people who pin cam bearings and i believe rod bearings can be pinned too
