98 k3500 crew cab 4wd before, and now have an 87 6.2 n/a 4wd v30 square body. As yall know they're essentially both same blocks, however I like simplicity and I don't tow very often, the 87 is all mechanical, I'm about to upgrade to vin j and dual thermostat inlets. Good video, man!

I could see an EGR being helpful on cold starts, bringing warm exhaust back into the cylinders. That being said, my 7.3l didn’t have one factory and I’m glad it didn’t. These things just kill it faster, delete it as soon as you can!

1996 c1500 ext cab. EGR, 220k miles runs awesome. So far getting about 16-17 mpg in city, not took it on highway yet. Has 3.42 gears and g80 locker.

EGR’s on the 350 diesels fucked the intakes pretty bad. They were known to clog on the 350s

I’ve got a 99 3500 dually. It keeps shutting off randomly then won’t start for an hour or so. I relocated the pdm, changed fuel filter, checked for a loose wire and doesn’t throw any codes. Any ideas I should try? Thanks in advance.

Always when it’s warm but doesn’t do it all the time. Occasionally it won’t even start. I put a new lift pump on it but that didn’t help.

Hey Jesse, I've recently bought a 1993 6.5 with the fully mechanical DB2 injection. Upon taking the intake off to do valve cover gaskets, I noticed my heads have the EGR ports but my intake manifold is the open chamber, non EGR version that blocks the head egr ports off. Did the previous owner swap S heads onto my F block possibly having cracked the originals? Or have F heads been cast with egr ports from the factory and not used on some models? I'm hoping I don't have a Frankenstein engine from the previous owner, lol.

Hey man, excellent question. F 6.5l heads were also casted with the egr port into the heads to the best of my knowledge. I havent personally come across any factory 6.5L heads that didn't have the EGR prot's, but that doesnt mean they aren't out there potentially.

EGR is claimed to increase fuel economy under low throttle cruise conditions, and turn off when power is needed. In stratified charge engines this should be very effective. In the 6.5 you would probably need to test with and without a good functioning EGR back to back on several trucks to know.

Just randomly shutting down? Do you know exactly what pump the shop that replaced it used? Do you happen to know if they timed it properly? And also do you know if the new pump came with a new PMD? If the pump did come with a new PMD did they relocate it somewhere or just leave it on the side of the injection pump?

Egr actually lowers combustion temperature. That about the only good thing about egr. Diesels rely on temperature to run and to run efficiently so egr is detrimental to its operation. Take it off!

You'll have to replace the intake horn and block off the ports from the head to the intake manifold or get a non egr equipped intake manifold. Changing just the intake horn will not delete the egr.

Vacuum pump also controls the function of the wastegate on the turbo. If you do not have a manual wastegate as well you will need to do so

Madisonville Tennessee, if the EGR starts to get clogged air flow becomes restricted, gums up valves, and doesn't allow the engine to run as efficient. I wouldn't say say it will effect the starting so much as overall performance.

I personally have not man, but they do sell a gasket set for the lower intake manifold that have a little metal plate that goes over the egr port from the head to intake manifold. I'm not sure if they are available where you are at but if I can find a link I can send it to you

94 K2500 'S' engine, which stands for, sucks that you have an egr. 😭 Now, without removing the intake, is there anything out there that might possibly remove any build up that's there? Probably not but one can hope. Anyway, to at least minimize any further accumulation, I installed a catch can. And since I need something else to add to my list of upgrades, an egr deleted upper and lower intake will be included in a never ending of gotta haves.

Unfortunately without removing the intake manifold, trying to clean it while on the motor will result in all of the crud ending up where it should not be. Best way to clean it is to completely remove it.

I have a video dedicated to this very topic. Its in the playlist if you have the time to watch. It really depends on the truck from what ive come to find working on these engines. Sometimes they throw a code and an engine light, sometimes they don't. Depending on the year you can get the code tuned out.

95 6.5 2500 6 lug. I have been told GM called it a "heavy half, light 3/4 ton. I have done the EGR delete using the intake manifold and plenum off of a 94 2500. The vacuum pump is gone and the manual wastgate has been installed using the manufacturer's spring tension setting. The only issue I am having now is the check engine light randomly comes on. Is there a way to stop the ECM from looking for vacuum and popping a code?

Only way I know in order to prevent that check engine light from coming on and staying off permanently is to get the ECM reflashed or reprogrammed

Great question! Short answer, if you want your motor to last and not leak, dont do it. The reason for this is, the turbo helps alleviate crank case pressures in the motor. If you were to remove the tube from the intake or remove the CDR "crankcase depression regulation" (tuna can looking thing on the passenger side valve cover) could potentially blow out seals in your motor. Also dumping oil vapor under the truck rolling down the road will soak the entire underneath of your truck in oil. In all honesty it's all personal preference, some will say it's ok to do it, others will say the opposite but personally I dont want the underneath of my truck looking like it has a major oil leak. I know that R&D IDI Performance makes upgraded injection pumps for the 6.9 and 7.3 idi motors. Does anyone play with the Detroit counterpart(mechanical pump wise), or even the electronic 6.5 pump? Does anyone make a front mount intercooler kit for them? Also which is a better pump to play with to make some more power out of the motor, mechanical or electronic?

Quadstar tuning, leroy diesel and heath diesel performance have pumps, and injectors. If not all three of them, quadstar for sure. As far as I have seen and searched, no one makes a bolt on front mount intercooler kit for the 6.5l BUT check out gingersnap customs on youtube. He bought a DIY kit and made it a front mount. Both the mechanical and electronic controlled 6.5l are very tunable, cant go wrong with either one as far as making power. But, as of right now, the highest horsepower 6.5l to date is running a ds4 injection pump, which is an electric injection pump 👍

If the knock is only the injectors then yes the truck is well worth it (of course as long everything else is ok) if it turns out is engine or rod knock, your going to be looking at a rebuild or possibility a new motor depending on how much damage it's done. But motors for these trucks are reasonably cheap

I have a 94 K2500LD with an EGR, and it has a MAP sensor that (so I've heard) runs off a vacuum signal that comes from the EGR, depending on its position. You can use a breather, I've had them on my 2 trucks for years. If you've got a lot of blow by get a breather with a hose and run it into the fender to keep the engine bay cleaner. No matter what you do never plug it off though.

Sadly Im in Germany and need to put a EGR back on. Just goes to show I pretty much bought a GMC Sierra with the 6.5 from someone who is far from being a honest seller. Dont even understand how that dumbass seller got it through inspection. You cant pass inspection in Germany without an EGR or simply shutting off the EGR delete. Yes you can. The plate prevents the exhaust gasses from entering the intake. It literally blocks off the port where the egr valve would alow the gasses to flow through into the intake manifold.

Yes, you can remove the egr valve and install the block of plate, the only other thing you will have to do is plug off the vaccume line going to the egr valve and that is it if you choose to go that route 👍

Hey Jesse, p0606 and a p0370 code come up at the same time and now my truck runs like shit. Keep in mind it has a new injection pump 6000km ago. Not really sure what to do here

So I also had the p0370 code before and it turned out to be the optical sensor and I had to add a resistor in the pmd in order to make it run like it was supposed to. But the p0606 cod could be a couple things. Pcm international communication which is a new pcm. Also the problem could be optical sensor went bad, or the pmd went bad.

Plenty of people do it, so long as the EGR port is completely sealed off from the intake ports inside the lower manifold you shouldn't run into issues.

Hi Jesse, I did delete the egr but I'm afraid the motor vehicle inspection here in Sweden will not like that. I think of getting it all hooked up again. I have the pump, valve and the three vacum solenoids. If I got it right one is wg one is egr and the third is egr vent. It wasn't hooked up properly when I got the truck, with hoses missing and cut of . Do u know how the hoses should be hooked up? Sorry for a long story, would be very thankful for any help 🙏

It was turning on but just cold air the plug for the blower motor was burnt so I cut a plug off another truck and re wired it when I turn the heat on you can hear the blower motor relay behind the glove box click but the blower motor won’t turn on

So before replacing anything, I would check and clean all of your grounds and battery cables. A bad ground will definitely confuse your ecu and make it have irregular idle. I know in that video you also commented about the crankshaft position sensor, that will cause irregular idle symptoms as well but I wouldn't replace any parts till you have checked all the cables.

In the process of creating a cleaner burning truck you destroy so many parts that it creates more emissions to make all the new parts to repair your engine than your engine would ever put out in emissions in 1 million miles.!
