6.9 and 7.3 IDI Injection pump removal

I haven't seen this method before. Usually the standard proceedure is to leave the timing gear cover in place, and slide the injector pump back out of the gear and housing. That way there is no risk of getting the timing off. Tricky, but I have always done it that way. Can't see much wrong with your method though. Good vid.

Do they have a gasket for that houseing part on my truck it lets oil up past it and im about to remove the pump to have it rebuilt and i was going to put a new gasket or find the right stuff to make a gasket for it

Have you had the chance to put a 7.3l injection pump onto a stock 6.9l set up? Will it run to high idle on first fire up?

it runs better has better timing advance and smoke clears up better too I'd recommend a 7.3 pump

You can successfully remove the pump without removing the gear housing, I guess it's a matter of preference.

Hey man what size sockets/wrenches will I need to get the IP pump out? The trucks in our fleet at work are all 7.3 idi, and the mechanic is letting me take an IP off of one of his parts trucks. I just need to know what tools I need to bring with me

@dunn98632 Ok you mean you love non-computerized diesels, I agree. But indirect injection isn't a great design.

Too much work leave the housing alone, unless it's leaking badly. take the three bolts, the gear is pinned, so the pump goes back.

how is he messing peoples engines up. is he going to their house? people need to watch several videos and read manuals before attempting work lie this.
