This truck was built the same year I was born, in 1984! You can't kill those IDI's, 6.9 and 7.3's. Great engines!

Would love to find some alcoa rims like that for my Ram 3500. I miss my 91 f250 4x4 sclb with the turbo 7.3 and a 5 speed. Such a rare truck down here now.

The 6.9 idi is the best sounding diesel by far
@PappProductions3 жыл бұрын
I love the way they sound too!
@justin_lee30053 жыл бұрын
Actually. The best sounding diesel is easily the 6.0 powerstroke. Most reliable no, best sounding yes. Lol

Does revving up the engine help lubricate the motor faster? Asking for a friend.

How? My '84 6.9 won't start at 45 degrees unless I run the glow plugs 3 or 4 cycles. Even then it is a crap shoot. Once it is warmed up a tiny bit, it starts on the first bump.
@PappProductions3 жыл бұрын
You may have A few glow plugs bad, 7 of mine were bad. Soon as I changed them it fires up right away now. You could have a small air intrusion somewhere too, so when u crank it over she isnt getting fuel yet. Next time u go to start your truck hold throttle down halfway while you crank it and see how lomg it takes for smoke to come out of exhaust. Should only a take no more than a few seconds. The solenoid for your GP's could be sticking too causing them to not heat up all the time. Mabe try new motorcraft plugs and give her a go that easy and not too expensive.
@PappProductions3 жыл бұрын
In video i bypassed the automatic glowplug switch (it wasnt working)and used a screwdriver the jump the solenoid for 10 seconds for glow plugs to heat up
@bryanvanhorn62183 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information. Tested the glow plugs with my meter last fall and they were all good, that doesn't mean that they are all still good. I get white smoke almost immediately when I crank it over regardless of temperature. Then again, I've replaced most of the fuel hoses and all of injector caps. The only fuel hose I haven't replaced is from the fuel selector switch to the water separator. Brand new glow plug controller (broke the original off accidently, btw don't use Teflon paste on the threads) but not relay. The relay is original equipment, so that is a likely suspect. Then again, with 3 or 4 cycles from the automatic GP controller the glow plugs may have been on for only 7 or 8 seconds. I get a second on the first pulse and then about a quarter to half second pulse for 8 pulses. I am not getting a 10 second sustained heat from the glow plugs. I have a portable momentary switch that I could use to turn on the relay and hold for that amount of time and see if it makes any difference. Something to try next fall/winter.

@@bryanvanhorn6218 10 4 my other 6.9 wasn't sustaining either so i wired up a momentary switch now glow plugs hit and she fires up good. Sounds like youve narrowed it down good luck with it!
