The stillness and static-ness of the images is literally a part of it and it just pushes like all my buttons that people with no understanding of traumacore as a visual language decided that “you’re trapped there” means an endless looping hallway with like, squiggly endermen in it that’ll Jump out and Getcha Ooh Scary! No Trent being trapped there and finding uncanny vacant Americana both comforting and horrifying is among other things a visualization of being trapped in a state of liminal mourning for the childhood you didn’t realize you were losing. It’s also the dirt and blood and bugs of childhood, it’s playground splinters and dark corners and repeating neighborhoods and adults with faces you don’t remember at all, but they must have had them, right? It being reduced to a reskin for the first slenderman game, and people “trying to find these places” is like... gross. Genuinely yucky. I didn’t want to like, understand this shit. The ideal outcome would have been I can’t understand what the back rooms and traumacore(s) are That’s literally a part of it. “What if I want to explore the room. Go look around?” Much like in real life, there is something tangible to be derived from, like, but you *can’t.* You can’t go back and look around. You can’t pick things up, you can’t touch or change anything, you can’t see around corners. You are a ghost moving through these images. The separation and its frustrations of being unable to interact with something you feel so familiar with, like if you could just go back and look more closely, that’s a part of it. ... also while this is not a personal experience I have, I know a lot of people who have survived csa use the landscape of traumacore to create art and express that horror with means not afforded to them as children. And like I can’t speak for anyone who’s survived csa but like, people turning this image based language of reckoning and recovery that was hurting no one into a jumpscare game because they find it creepy when it’s supposed to be is so... gross.
