well done guys... I randomly came across your video. Now past 50 and my son almost 6, I dusted off my 25yo S&M Holmes NG (Tiny S&M Divebar, Haro Mega Hubs, and Primo 42 tooth sprocket 🙂) to ride with my son... Best feeling ever! It's cool to ride with your friends... but the next level is riding with your son and seeing how much fun he has to BMX. A passion is born. Your video is perfect for him. Thanks Guys!

don't currently own a bmx but i'm riding a kona honzo st on mountain bike trails and a 2003 marin bolinas ridge (that i converted from a 3x to 1x drivetrain) on neighborhood streets and multi-use trails. might take the kona to an all-wheels park this weekend if the dirt isn't dry enough to ride.

I see what you did here, I generally agree that these are great tricks for beginners to learn. However some of these are not easy, and will require lots of practice and commitment. I still consider myself a beginner, been riding bmx since February this year. I can do half of these. Bunny hop, fakie with the turn-out, air out of some quarters, and 180 out of banks and 4-5ft flyouts, but not on flat. It took me about 5months to learn how to fakie and then a month to 180 out a bank. Manuals and 180s on flat can take years to learn, as I've been told by many. At my pace of progression, that's about what I expect. However I've met people riding for 3+ years that still cant manual more than a few parking spaces but they can 180 bar spin for example. I don't really consider long manuals a beginner trick because it requires so much bike control to get dialed. I've never met someone that's been riding for less than a year and can hold a manual past 2-3 parking spaces. Cat walks and wheelies though, sure, plenty of kids can do that although its not my cup of tea. I believe there are a few easier tricks that beginners can also learn (that should take significantly less time to progress on) that will help ignite the fire in their bmx journeys. Double peg and feeble grinds on ledges. (double pegs on small rails as well if your brave enough) one-handers & one-footers. Literally the only prerequisite to these is the bunny hop. These tricks can be learned in just a few sessions at the skatepark once you can bunny hop, unlike fakies, manuals, air outs, 180s on flat, and disasters. One handers and one footers are also great because you can take them to the dirt jumps as well instead of being a dead sailor or just doing a tiny whip/bar turn over every jump

It's kind of interesting that most freestyle BMX bikes these days seem to come without brakes. When did that become the norm?
@JoyOfBike
@JoyOfBike 2 ай бұрын
It all started with Troy McMurray late 90's/early 2000's, I think I took my brakes off in 2010 & that's around when I started noticing the bikes coming without brakes. Personally I enjoy it becuase it helps you understand how to control the bike even more! -Mike
