A good tip is to pay attention to the color that you are drawn to, find that color palette that you love and stick to it. I found that every time I bought something that didn't fit into my color palette I got bored of it quite quickly

I also keep looking at beautiful pieces that would have looked great on me even just a few years back, and it is really hard to get over the fact that I have changed and need a new style.I am slim size uk 12,, but the skin is not the same, bits sag 😥 and things don't look right. Most of the pinterest boards and style magazines either show young women, or older celebrities who are just as young looking, very skinny and have tons of cash to spend on themselves!! I know Helen Mirran, and those older instagramers, but they are gifted their clothes and often have personal stylists as well. Yes someone once told me of Beth Dajali (can't quite remember the name)..fine, but often rather frumpy style and just not me...exactly what I want to avoid in fact....oh what a dilemma 😂🤣

For those who have already made these mistakes: in some cases it makes sense to invest in a sewing machine and learn the basics. I had sooo many items that were good but had only that tiny thing that bothered me (a bit too wide or too long or too boring) and just by changing up that little bit I could wear those clothes again and didn’t have to buy new ones! 🙂

Amen. Being able to repair your favorite garments that have just one small defect , instead of throwing them away and replacing them, is super sustainable. Often I hear youtubers saying "I will take this to the dry cleaners to get hemmed" or whatever, and that is so expensive! Especially if you are short and every pair of pants needs to be shortened. Learn how to do stuff yourself: hemming, replacing a button, taking in the waist of you lose a little weight, etc. It's crazy expensive to pay someone to do those simple repairs.
@kimberlyperrotis89623 жыл бұрын
My sewing skills have always helped me with the basics like shortening or narrowing a garment, repairs, etc. I’m 61 and my Mom is still teaching me more complicated alterations, we are taking in the shoulder of two blazers now! Just a note: my new Singer sewing machine cost only $200, and was delivered by Singer directly to my door for free, within 3 days. Where I live, it pays for itself by the time you get about 6-7 items hemmed by a tailor, I buy at least that many too-long trousers in a year.

It's best when we realize that clothing isn't a sustainable happiness provider at all. It's temporary, and if we can discover happiness in things more permanent and non material, we're happier over all and clothing matters less.

I love to think of life as imperfectly perfect or perfectly imperfect, however you like ✨ mistakes are lessons; bad habits are an opportunity for great habits and skies the limit. Reach for the stars so high that it seems you’ll never reach them but you’ll surely come close! Be you, be free, and be the inspiration within the canvas. Very light fabrics! It's not as hot bc I'm in the northeast, but on very humid days or times when I've gone to florida/tropical climates I def focus on the fabric. Look for flowy lightweight fabric skirts and shorts, or dresses. You can't go wrong with some nice high wasted wide leg linen pants/skirts/shorts and a loose cotton tank, with cute wedges or sandals.

I would also add - going to fast, not giving yourself the time to test what you really need, what you really like. I have spent a lot of money at the beginning of re doing my wardrobe on pieces that were not good for me. In theory perfect, but just not really mine. I bought expensive trench - Now i know it was too short (i like maxi), and too formal (I prefer round raglan shoulders instead of classic fit and so on). I bought a leather jacket - wrong collar. I bought shoes - once again, not proper cut for me. After that i stopped investing and focused on thrifting cheap things for year and a half. After that I sold or gave away a lot of this things but finally I really KNEW what i like, which colors, which styles, which fabric. Maybe people that used to have a lot of clothes can skip this step, but if you start from zero and you don't have the standard hourglass figure and standard classic/minimalist taste in fashion i really recommend not focusing on the investment pieces and reducing the amount of clothes too early.

I love some of the booties and dressier items but my lifestyle is such that I just don't wear a lot of that. Really taking a look at your lifestyle is sooo important.

I have one that’s important to where I live; that mistake is to not taking the weather into consideration. Here in January, where temperatures usually are around -20 to -40, we can have warm days of above 0 for a couple of days before temperatures drop again. We also snow in June sometimes or early September but two days later it’s 30C. So I learned to not put away too many seasonal items because we never know when we might need them. I love your videos by the way.

They are getting pretty threadbare so I went to get replacements and found them on sale. A huge sale. I bought 3 of each color in two different sizes. I love them! That's the easy part. I keep trying to find my style. I don't know that I ever had one. I struggle and then impulse buy thinking I've finally figured it out only for that item to end up at the back of the closet or given to a friend. Great tips and another wonderful video! Thank you! I admit my favorite clothing weaknesses are: striped shirts, jackets/blazers, white tee-shirts, and white button down blouses, and pretty much anything navy blue! Menopause has brought some body changes with regards to fit, comfort, and style in my life. I have been streamlining my closet into a capsule wardrobe of neutrals. My color palette is: Navy, Black, Gray, White, Tan, and Off-white/cream. My overall style is traditional. I mix and match solid, color, separates from my wardrobe to create my outfits. Then I add accessories like scarves, hats, shoes, jewelry, and handbags to complete my look. With basic solid colored pieces to select from, it provides me with variety to pair pieces together to suit my mood or dress for an event. Best Wishes to you!

Something I do (and I get away with because I am not in a super corporate environment) is separate my two capsules into work and non work. When I fewl myself not having enough items (usually in the work one as I wear it the most) I have a look through non work and see if anything can be moved over. I'll usually find one or two items that I think I'm bored of that I can add in and feels like a total refresh. I sometimes move items the other way as well 👌🏼

Hello Signe, I'm 35 and still trying to define my style I think... The only thing I know is that comfort prevails over anything. I hate feeling like I'm wearing a costume, even if it is more "trendy" to dress a certain way... I don't wear skirts like never ever, except for dresses in the summer. I have found my staple pair of jeans which is the ASOS Ridley denim pants. They fit perfectly, they are not expensive, and when one pair gets worn out I have it recycled. I know ASOS is not a sustainable brand but some of us can't afford sustainable items. I'm on a tight budget and I'm doing everything I can to improve my impact on the environment. As you say, it's better to do what we can than doing nothing at all.

Then one day I realised my passion for them was spent and I was left with at least 6 unworn shirts to find new homes for 😕. These days I stick to a max. of one additional version of a loved item, and won't repurchase until they are worn out. Chances are that by then, I'm ready for a change.

I struggle with finding basics that look good on a curvier body, especially tees! I love a good crew neck tee, but it doesn't look so good when you have boobs! 😭

A V-neck tee is as basic as a crew neck one

Yes v necks and scoop necks work well for boobs!

I find that a thin bra or a fabric/lace (with underwire) one works best for that. Keeps boobs very happy and less sweaty, and your chest isn't the first to walk into a room due to extra padding. Just make sure it fits perfectly.

I have the same problem. I mostly wear V-necks on their own and my crew necks under blazers, which give a V shape and visually cuts that too-generous part of us down to size. They’re warmer, too, for cool weather🙂

I just wanted to thank you for your channel. I naturally tend toward minimalism and have tried the capsule wardrobe for years. A few years back I went on the keto diet, lost a lot of weight, and now at age 62 for the first time in my life I can actually look stylish. Your channel has helped me figure out how to make that work. And now that I have a new job and have to get dressed every day to go to work, this channel has been an immense help. Iʻm also a veteran thrift store shopper; 90% of my wardrobe comes from the thrift stores. Last night -- so excited!!! -- I found an amazing black leather biker jacket at the Goodwill. I already have a very worn and distressed and very loved black leather jacket, but this one has all the silver zippers and angles, and I never would have looked twice at it before now. I can hardly wait to wear it!!! Thank you so much for all your tips and inspiration. Muah!!! xo
