I did this in Uncharted 4, seeing as how in the previous 3 games there were mystical creatures/monsters. I was saving up all my powerful weapons to the point where I was only doing melee only.

In linear single player games - always trying to go in a direction that isn't the obvious direction to progress, in case there's a secret or collectable there... Then getting annoyed when you realise that this is the "right" way to go, and that the "obvious" way was a mislead, so you go back to an earlier save just to check it out in case there was something there...

And it's annoying when you come up to a fork in the road, with no obvious clue as to which path comes to a quick dead end with some collectibles and which one progresses through the level. You just stand there for about 5 minutes deliberating on which way to go.

How about these.... 1. Having to kill every enemy in the level/area. 2. Having to kill every enemy in the level/area in a certain way. I.e. Like stealth kills. 3. Having to out level the enemies before moving on. For example jrpgs like Final fantasy. That way you dominate the enemies rather than just squeak by the next area. 4. Having to redo levels that provide rankings because you didnt get the top rank. 5. Having to get every companion character even of you dont like them or wont ever use them. Example...Mass Effect and Dragon Age.. 6. Using character created weapons or armor even when better options are given to you because...well...i made this...lol. 7. Caring about your looks. For example i could use this helm that has better stats, but i wont because it doesnt go with my outfit. Or having to dye and re-dye your armor for every new piece you get so it all matches. 8. Having to log into online games daily, even those you may no longer play, simply because they offer daily rewards. 9. Watching reviews on games that you already played, just to make sure people agree with you if they are good or bad. Then arguing with them when they don't. 10. Replaying sections or whole games in order to see every choice option played out. just some i can think of atm...lol

my 1st rule for enemy grinding in a more casual playthrough. Make the effort to kill every enemy in the area at least once. If you backtrack or retread old territory then I usually skip all enemies that I don't draw aggro from. Aside from grinding to help prepare for a high-level area, I hope that the designers made at least some effort to make sure that all the first encounters in an area are enough to get past that section. If I have to purposely grind through an area more than once, that's a big hindrance on my choice of a repeated playthroughs. Good thing new game plus is a thing for some games. As much as I enjoyed xenoblade chronicles, I don't think I'll be doing a lv1 restart for a long time. My first playthrough took up 150+ hrs alone and I haven't even grinded out all the party affinity links.

Number 10 takes from the enjoyment of your choices, my 10th is do the same choices every time you play the game unless you're playing with a different character alignment. All the others are almsot a depiction of myselk but I like to rally the companions.

I feel like that should be another entry on the list: Compulsive saving after doing almost anything. Especially on JRPGs, where you'll use every save file you're given, just in case you screwed up and only learned of the screw-up later, so you need to go back three saves just to do something different.
@anthonymitchell654

A compulsive habit I had in RPGs, primarily Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim, was hoarding healing items and buff items, and never using them because I was afraid of not having them whilst fighting a particularly difficult group of enemies. But when I DID come across a difficult group, I'd still save them in case it got harder later. And the cycle continued.
@TheDark4light
@TheDark4light 7 жыл бұрын
Oh that sucks. Ive had to come up with rules to avoid it. Use up the smaller ones first when near death, the large ones when Im down the max they will heal and if it boosts stats temporarily or is used on the enemy then I sell it. All but one for those just in case moments But only after Ive died once trying to do it without healing. "If I hit him and he misses then I can kill him next turn and go to a place to heal without using any items." Not a smart way to play, especially when relying on a crit. Not to mention that it must be a multiple of 10 unless I only have a couple of the item at a time and if I get like 50 of them and havent even touch them I may sell 20, 30 max, dont know when you may need those 20 useless items.

Abeth I wanna say the only game I actually used things in their entirety would be bloodborne. But there's a cap and you NEED them. Every other rpg I play I constantly have shit tons of potions and buffs that just sit. I don't sell them because I swear I'll need them, and when I think I need them, I probably forget and win the fight without using them, so I swear next time I'll use them. It's a never ending cycle of having a ridiculous amount of shit I'll never use. But, ya know, you never know.
@redshepherd32
@redshepherd32 7 жыл бұрын
man...... I've done this on rpgs as simple as mario and luigi. I keep like 20-30+ of each type of mushroom, syrup, and nut variants. I use them when I take less than 10 health damage after each fight. I've started to try and get into a habit of "if this type of healing item is too small for my current lv/health, then I will either sell off half my stock I collected from drops. That or make sure to have only 5-10 of a small heal item if I feel like they can be used for small bits of damage that can add up with larger types." Though to be fair, this scenario is basically filed with the "hoarding items" entry. The paranoia is real 🤓

I can definitely relate with needing to complete the maps in games. Completing the maps in Star Ocean was a pet peeve of mine. Alexander Robertson Those loyality missions in Mass Effect 2 are side missions, you don't need to do then to complete the game. I guess they aren't important at all. Probably equally not important in Mass Effect 3. And I wouldn't consider doing any side quests in Borderlands or any Elder Scrolls game because, as we know, you can totally beat the game doing nothing but the main quest and not getting cool weapons or anything like that. Probably should avoid any mission that involves getting any weapon unless it's in the main quest. And those side missions in Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Pointless. I don't know why the game even has ending slides that mention them. They're totally irrelevant. Also I was being sarcastic because I like completing all the side quests I can before moving on in the main plot. I know sarcasm can be hard to read in text but maybe not everyone is being serious when they type.
@ragequazar

In my defense - the "doing all sidequests" thing came from certain sidequests vanishing after you progress with the story and damaging your endgame. "oh, you wanted the best end? Should have saved that little girl in a sidequest that only showed before main quest phase 3" "The best weapon? oh, sorry you needed an item that only appeared in a alternate map during sidequest X that you can't do anymore"

I will still open it even if it says empty. You know, because maybe this time it won't Really be empty. It gets really bad in large treasure rooms, because you don't remember what boxes have already been checked and had only junk, and which is that mystical box I somehow missed. (I know I didn't miss that box. I clear rooms in a compulsively ordered manner specifically to avoid this. Doesn't matter though, I don't remember what junk was still there.)

Having stupidly annoying forced Multiplayer Trophies in Games where they shut down the Servers or nobody plays anymore..or where they're a huge grindfest. not allowing me to get Platin.. uugh. Am i the only one?

It's a curse. I will never stop taking everything and searching everywhere. I will never skip cutscenes. Considering how big the map of FFXV is going to be, I'm going to be playing that for a LONG time.

I didn't understand why he was saying its a chore to sit through that scene. That's hands down one of my favorite cutscenes that doesn't include Raiden. The sheer awe I felt when I realized how fucked and powerless I was to stop Liquid-Ocelot was just perfect.

Honestly i do the second one with lego whenever I'm making something. ooh, this looks nice, I will put it in this separate pile rather than chucking it in the lego crate just in case I might possibly need it one day. This, for example, will ALWAYS happen with the shiny ones. I think I have a problem Rob, even beyond the fact that I watch cinematics no matter what.

I don't have the habit, NORMALLY, with restarting if it's not perfect. Until i get to Fire Emblem. I will spend hours on a level and then someone dies and i'm seriously staring there debating on do i restart? do i go on? do i just give up and cry on the floor?

That's kinda like me when it comes to leveling up my characters in either of the etrian odyssey untold games, that's why I always play on picnic.. judge me all you want but if I finish a battle and just ONE of my characters are dead.. (mainly with bosses) I almost HAVE to restart,no way am I going to continue and have 1,2,3 maybe even 4 characters one level below the 5th... however in the cases I can't avoid it, I'll spend time purposely leveling up my underleveled characters with the overleveled ones dead just so I can equal out their experience....
@fafnirthelagaardianhaxorus9862
@fafnirthelagaardianhaxorus9862 6 жыл бұрын
... Or rather that's what I want to do... I end up just sucking it up and dealing with it haha Though.. I do it in a way at the start of both etrian odyssey untold games, making absolutely certain that my first character(s) are level 4 before fighting a certain boss monster, that way when the rest of the characters join the party(they join at lvl 5 after the battle, well in EOU1 anyway.. in EO2U they join at the start of the battle so I make sure the original characters are lvl 5 instead) the experience matches up so everyone's the same level. Sorry,That was a pretty long reply....
