As far as I know, you do not need your rent contract for the "Anmeldung"/"Ummeldung" process. The rent contract also does not replace the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Your landlord *has* to provide this for you. The exact form differs from city to city, but the contents are basically always the same. Note that getting an in-person appointment can take longer than 2 weeks, so you should get one as soon as you know when you are most likely already in possession of the required documents.
