This September I had the opportunity to visit a remote Alaskan village to hang out with my buddy Chevie Roach of Life Below Zero. After moose hunting with Chevie for a few days he ran me up river for a solo Alaskan adventure of my own. I spent the next week float hunting and exploring the Alaska wilderness with my osage selfbow and a canoe. This was my first trip to Alaska and first time moose hunting. This area has a 50" minimum spread requirement for non resident moose hunters and it can be challenging to find a mature bull that meets the minimum. Additionally, hunting with traditional archery gear, I'd have to get plenty close to these giant animals!
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

I envy you man.. I dont live in the states.. The fact that you can go from the tropics of florida to the frigid beauty of alaska has to be one of the most rewarding feelings you can get in life.. You cant take that stuff for granted.. The world is a beautiful place..

I second that. Watching this man has changed the way I even do things and I dropped my compound and only shoot traditional now , small game I only shoot slingshots and that alone is very rewarding as a woodsman . Trying to learn to build my bow now! He lives what my idea is the American Dream!

@@Rogers_Outdoor_Adventures I eventually want to make my own bow based off my all fiberglass including handle Actionbow 8200 by Actionrod a flat limb bow where handle is duel sided notched grip so I can have a 40-45 pound bow I at my 24 inch draw that both right or left eye dominate archers could use. I would go one piece hickory using fiberglass only as a backing but if possible preferring sinew on the front and back.

I am a black man who has had everything and nothing. I know what you mean by taking stuff for granted. I cherish the small things in life now. I didn't know what freedom was until i started my journey in the outdoors. Being outdoors in nature gives me peace of mind. Bow season just started here for me. I hope to get my 1st deer harvest this year. Thank you for this video. It was very informative and inspirational. I'll be looking out for the next hunt/video.

Hunting is not all about the kill. To get so close to a bull moose was epic in itself and to capture it on video was awesome. My first chance at a Roe buck in the UK was not taken as the hedge I was behind was just that bit too tall. The memory of it being just 20 yards away will always be there though. I like ethical hunting videos without blood lust and this is one of the best I have seen, thank you.

Even as an MP we learned that one. Clay was talking about the need for struggle in life to actually live. So many people live completely devoid of struggle, up to and including failing a homework assignment. When they finally do experience it they fall to pieces.

Thank you so much for the privilege of sharing your Alaskan moose camp with us. Warmest wishes, Chris (in Maine) P.S. I almost forgot: I found myself wishing that you 'd had the time to make another one of the extraordinary spinning outfits you fashioned early in the "Alone" series. I really enjoyed your content, I can really appreciate the non compound bow hunt. Love the birch caller, many people take to much bark off and leave the tree vulnerable to disease. My culture still use birch for baskets and moose calls. My family donated our great great grandparents birch basket, was over 200 years old. It went to the ubc museum of anthropology in Vancouver BC Canada.

Is there a trick to judging antler width so you know for sure you’re legal?? Lot of honest outdoorsman work (and $$$) on a trip like that…
@tylorbyington7602
@tylorbyington7602 2 ай бұрын
The trick is taking a picture of the bull and measuring the width using the eyes as a reference scale. Measure the eyes at about 9 or 10 inches for a safe judgement @jefflanham1080

Thanks for a fantastic video Clay. I am a new hunter and it can be frustrating to "fail" and not harvest anything on a trip. I have slowly learned to embrace the entirety of the hunt and not just the kill. Not to get frustrated with a missed shot and to be ok with passing on an animal. Really appreciate your content! PS. Always jealous of that shirt your wife made up. Looks like a staple in your gear now.

Weather is mostly 27:40 only a problem if you aren't prepared or if you have a bad attitude. Obvious exceptions are tornadoes, hurricanes and blizzards. What a cool thing to follow you to Alaska and live your adventures with you Clay! The J-stroke that I learned from an old video of yours was my good friend this summer on a canoe trip in northern Germany with my son. Thanks for that. Being with you in the brush going after the moose is a priceless experience I will never have in this life here where I am. Thanks for that too! When you mentioned the rainbow I had to think of something you said on Alone when facing that stunning rainbow, Suck is the price you pay to be out here. What a THRILL to see the moose come around the bushes and just stand there! That pumping sound, was that your heartbeat?? And you playing the bull with the bow over your head, fantastic 😀 Epic video Clay, deeply appreciated. Cheers man, greets from Berlin, Alex

I uses to do it in my childhood but started again at 46... Seeing you on this birch and spruce... broad smile on my face apeared. Seen elk female 3- 4 times from small distance - they are not afraid of human too much. Hunting elk is forbiden in Poland. ... but memories remain.

Wow Clay what an incredible adventure. Truly thank you for taking me along from my couch in the middle of the night. Can’t wait to see you in the future bring your boys and show them where you go when your gone. To have the key to unlock and reset like I watched you do going across that lake. The deep breaths I’ve been there in my younger years. The older you get the harder it is to find that place. I seen that ‘fingers’ on your hand and thought(as a mom😂) “ohh your gonna lose that if you don’t put it in your pocket “. Well could you imagine the guy that comes along behind you and finds it. 😂. What a find. Looking forward to more videos of yours. You’ve really got it! I’ll be honest I’m sooo glad you didn’t have any sightings of bears. They make me so nervous 😬. Glad you were able to have a chance this time if you did ❤ does your wife have any interest in explaining with you ? You remind me of my dad when he was younger watching you do what you do are the stories he’s told me about all my life. It’s a great life

Hi clay you are a inspiration to many people your family are very Lucky I thought your thoughts on memories was so true,you always remember the hard times and the good times that you go through in life, I think dragging a big red deer would be hard enough but a big bull omg, great video take care all the very best from a fan in Yorkshire uk 👍👍

my father was an oceanographer / researcher when he was alive. they used to do research in Alaska in the mid / late 70s. he told me a story of a mission in which he was dropped by helicopter somewhere in way northern Alaska.. no one around for 100 miles, and one of the scariest sounds and most peaceful moments was as the sound of the heli faded out. he was out there collecting samples for a few days. i can't even imagine..... I've been 25 miles into desert where the only man-made sound was jet blue three times a day and that in itself after the 3rd day out was so loud...... i enjoy your channel :)

Thx Clay for sharing this. At one point in your video I believed hearing your heart beat (approx. 39 min in). You probably carried the gopro at your chest. Your heart rate went along with the moose appointment. Stay safe.

What an amazing adventure Clay. Some great hunting and incredible memories. What you said at 1hr16min was very true but I do think it takes time to realize it. The true worry is that they may never know it. Nate

A great adventure. I enjoyed the movie length video. When you do get a bull moose, consider saving and drying the front shoulder scapula as they are awesome for scraping the willows to imitate a bull. Nice job on the birch bark cone for calling too.
