Hi Guy. One of the things that got me interested in music editing was a small item by Gerry Anderson (of Thunderbirds fame) in the TV21 comic, late 1960s - I'd be 11 or 12. He described your reverse/forward piano technique but using tape editing. I never dared try it on my Dad's reel-to-reel, but I stored it up and played with the idea when I got access to digital editing on my Amiga 30 years later. What fun!

Thanks Guy! This was fun! Watch - take notes - review - experiment and go on and have fun.Seems complicated at first, but not any different than spending time practicing scales. Once you've learned them there is nothing to fear.

Guy, you're the man!! I've been on Cubase for 2 years now and it's the first time I've learned about its pitch correction envelope. My workaround was to create a sampler track with my desired audio clip and automate the pitch from there. Glad to know that I could actually eliminate a few more steps in my workflow using Direct Offline Processing. Will try this trick out!!

Cubase is absolutely a great (the greatest ^^) DAW for Sounddesign! all tools are included plus professional onboard effects and VSTis. Direct Offline Processing and the SamplerTrack are real weapons for firing off a sample and do sounddesign in a very quick way. Tip: shortcuts and macros for this tasks.

Nice tips Guy! I’ve been messing around in Bitwig lately and love how it handles bouncing and being able to use midi & audio on one track. I just drag any midi clip I want to bounce to the clip launcher in case I need it later and bounce audio over the midi. Love how clean you can keep things in Bitwig
@els1f2 жыл бұрын
Bitwig is amazing! That's definitely the present/future of DAWS to me. If you think in bitwig for a while, every other daw seems so slow comparatively😋 at least on the creative and sound design side. Cubase makes pro level mixing, mastering, post production stuff really smooth though. It's all personal preference though I suppose🤷♂️✌️
@thedevilsadvocate52102 жыл бұрын
How did you get going with the basic stuff. It appears difficult to get the thing going. Is there a bitwig primer you read ? The window layout makes no sense in bitwig
@hazmatproduction45622 жыл бұрын
@@thedevilsadvocate5210 I come from a more synthesis oriented background so the modular workflow of Bitwig is quite familiar to me from using VSTs like phaseplant & zebra. It’s much closer to Ableton workflow than cubase. I have very little Ableton experience though. Cubase does a lot of stuff better, but Bitwig gives me much more freedom to experiment when it comes to modulating complex chains of instruments & FX as if they were one synth. I prefer cubase for mixing, drum slicing & working with audio. The drum slicing is easily solved by using Groove Agent 5 in VST & slicing breaks in there like I used to in cubase. My aim is to get to a point where I can do all of the initial creative process of track production & all my sound design sessions in Bitwig, then export stems to cubase for mixdown & adding a few more bells & whistles and can also add any vocal samples at that point where I can use variaudio or melodyne in ARA2. I’m only about 3 months into learning Bitwig and feel as comfortable in it now as I did in cubase after years with it. It’s really very intuitive for my kind of production, where I’m generally creating my basses from scratch using subtractive or FM synths and loads of 3rd party FX. A lot of the time using synths I’ll wish I had an extra envelope or LFO, or wish I could use a better filter but still modulate it with the same LFOs as the oscillators. Bitwig makes this incredibly easy, where in cubase you have to be flicking between different plugin UIs & learning each one’s unique modulation system, or cluttering up projects with midi tracks for routing if you want to use external modulators like LFOtool. In Bitwig I rarely use any of my synths for anything but their oscillators, because I can sub out the synth’s native FX for better distortion, chorus, filter & time based FX than the ones built into the synth. Plus unlimited modulation sources means I can completely break the limitations of any soft synth built to emulate classic analog gear, with limited oscillators, envelopes & some may not even have LFOs or audio rate modulation capability. None of that matters in Bitwig. Anything goes when it comes to modular flexibility.

Is it possible to request a video on a Rubato piece in midi? I captured a nice sounding 12 bar piece at 120 bpm but its a slow orchestral type interlude. I want to do accompaniment tracks but at 120 that won't work. How to time map such a track in Cubase and make it workable for other tracks? BTW. LOVE Everything you do. I am a 69 YO Noob and you are a constant resource and smile to my journey to learn music. Thanks Guy!!

Its a nightmare. There are ways and tap tempo and pulling beats around in the editor but none of them are straightforward. Its easier to start with straight in time midi then change the tempo to give you that rubato feel.
