Thank you so much Dimitri. When I'm breaking up my lines I often think about how I want my readers to read the poem, but this took it to a whole new level, especially the texture and feel of a poem through adjectives and the movements of a poem through verbs. I appreciate your teachings. So glad I found you! With gratitude, Melissa p.s. I went back and edited a poem that I wrote today based on this advice and it reads so much better!

Melissa, I'm glad I was able to offer insight. I am one of those "hippy dippy" "rosy shades" poets that believe in a working energy on the page and when I learned about the power of words at the end of lines I was compelled to keep that in my poetry mantras. I appreciate you finding this helpful! Gratitude reciprocated. Snaps for the edited poem going somewhere!

Yo mate listen up. I am a poet ( You & mate are just be cause I m funny). I have been writing ten years and read more than 500 books. Your video explained very simply something that I hadnt clarified in my mind for years. Thanks a lot! p.s. what about lines that end with "which" or "where" or "and"? I guess they provide a fast forward to the next line?

I appreciate the colorful address, poet. I'm glad that my work has helped you! I'd say that those word you mentioned are okay and it depends on the scenario. Sometimes the line breaks are transitional enough, but sometimes those words are needed. My personal rule of thumb: never end a line with and unless it's very intentional.

Hi. What is CROSS LINE mean in poetry?
@DimitriReyesPoet6 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, I watched the video again and couldn't find me saying cross line. Can you give me the exact time when I said it? If you are generally asking me what cross line is in poetry, I'm not really sure either. Can you tell me where you heard it if that's the case?

Can u explain why is enjambment used as I have a test. Thx😀
@DimitriReyesPoet5 жыл бұрын
Enjambment can be used for many reasons. The most general of reasons can be found by just looking up the definition. You can read about it here: literarydevices.net/enjambment/

When did "neatness" become an adjective? What about verbs? Seems you were talking about verbs but your text was about adjectives.
@DimitriReyesPoet6 жыл бұрын
The example you may be speaking about has the word "neatness" functioning as a describing word for a mustache rather than describing an action word, therefore making it an adjective instead of an adverb. Neatness as an noun, adjective, and adverb www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/neatness While "neatness" can be a noun, adjective, or adverb, in this poem (and for the sake of the video) I'm queering the word by manipulating the syntax. You can see that the enjamb can manipulate our understanding of language in many ways.
