Shaking your "hands" (in quotations because the movement comes from the arm) as if you were trying to get them dry after getting wet is one of the things that made me understand rotation the best

They panned through some clips of Bob Durso and Edna Golandsky discussing rotation in the video. The Taubman conception of rotation, and what Roskell is showing here, are entirely different. In the Taubman work, there is a rotation between every note. Often these are double rotations, not discussed at all in this video.

I was told you sit down. Put one finger on the lowest key and 1 finger on the highest key and then lower your head until it touches the piano. Where your nose touches is middle c. Try it out

No need for anything fancy, you'll just get used to it in a few months.

On 88 keys, it’s the 4th group of 2 black keys from either side. That’s all I got. 😂

can we get a video for different techniques needed for different periods of music

Is there an instrument where rotation does not become essential for proper playing? I know there are always odd freaks with strange as heck techniques, yet they play beautifully, but generally I mean…I play guitar and right hand rotation is very difficult to achieve in I’d say frankly at least your first 10 years at least. A hell of a lot of players never get it. But when they do, it becomes unlocked and often still holds its magic. Something there about ultimate grace of movement and expression. Do pianists feel the same?

Great question. I studied cello as well and one of my biggest breakthroughs in piano was thinking of my left hand technique as a cellist and applying similar principles to piano! -Robert

Yes! I'm studying for a diploma on the piano and my teacher said my wrists were far too stiff left to right for a Mozart piece I was playing, so I worked a lot on wrist rotation. It was hard work but is totally transformational

Rotation is not a useful piano technique.

Care to explain? Being a student in the medical field I cannot agree. The correct kinesiology terms are pronation and supination via the proximal radioulnar joint. Every single motion for the joints: shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers have a significant impact on not only piano technique but also injury prevention. With that said, her methods of improving "rotation" is not the most effective means of doing so.
