I love your props! And your presenting style is so clear and natural. I've been blogging for almost 8 years so I have quite a collection of bits and bobs. One thing I am always on the look out for is interesting cutlery. Never anything shiny. I collect antique forks as well as pick up very modern ones in interesting textures, like porcelain, slate/steel, bone, wood (thin and long look lovely). One place I love to go are ceramic and modern craft fairs either in the Uk where I live or on holiday. I love to mix and match textures shapes and styles, but mostly I play it safe and don't try and detract too much from the food itself. :-) PS I must get some fake ice cubes!

Oh that's so true! Dull ridiculously old silverware that you would never eat off are SO great for photos! Your point that the food should always be the star is such an important one!

All must haves and you have some really nice shots to go along. The thin walled glasses was a really good tip I don't hear to often, but they give really sweet reflections! Great video

#7: fabrics. Use them for napkins or surfaces. I have a stack of placemats from Dollar Tree that come in handy. Most fabric stores have remnants that they sell cheap - use them as napkins. Terry Thomas... the photographer Atlanta, Georgia USA

Thank you Kelly! That was very helpful! You make the styling look very easy, but it's always a challenge for me. I never know what to do with the napkins or tea towels. ha ha
@asideofsweet7 жыл бұрын
Honestly I could do a whole video of me trying and failing to make napkins look good. WHY is it so hard?!
@PattymacMakes7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing that Kelly!! I don't know why it's so hard to figure out what to do with a napkin. UGH! I wind up doing very stripped down setups, because I get overwhelmed easily with the heavy styling. So I do super basic and often macro shots of the food. Which is mostly sweets or comfort food and looks pretty close up.

Kelly, love your work!!! Do you offer online food styling classes? Are all these props good to photograph on dark (black) surfaces? Thank you!
@asideofsweet7 жыл бұрын
I don't offer any online classes. I am planning to share more food styling videos here though, so stay tuned! If you have something in particular that interests you, let me know! I'm always looking for good video topics.
@asideofsweet7 жыл бұрын
Oh, and they should definitely work on black surfaces. I think the wood would be the most challenging but would be great if you're going for moody vibes. I always imagine teacups as light and airy like a morning breakfast but if you have the right set I bet you could style it with a dark background.
