6 Examples of What Medieval Royalty Did for Fun During the Middle Ages...

In the Middle Ages how much leisure time a person had would depend heavily upon their social status. Because they had such a favoured position in life, and many servants to fulfill their every need, medieval royalty had lots of free time that they could just fritter away. They could also afford to pay for the best activities for themselves, and for any guests who they needed to entertain.

Hunting in Denmark is still heavily influenced by old traditions. One of the most common ways of hunting is a big group hunt, directly translated it is a "company hunt" hunting with company. It's typically scoffed at by non hunters as a thing for rich people to get connections and secure business deals. However as a normal person with a hunting license I can assure you it can also be far more casual and fun. This type of hunting is conducted with 3 important elements: The hunters, of course. "Clappers", who walk from one side of the forrest towards the hunters and make noise to push game towards the hunters. And last but not least, the dogs for fetching game. I have been on a few of these hunts, even one at a castle where I shot my first pheasant. Yes the bird, not a peasant lol.

What would be fun to see is if we made what we do now during medieval times how wealthy would we be considered. And then how wealthy the royals would be adjusted for inflation.
@Hagashager

Everyone in the United States, and I do mean everyone- even the homeless- would at the very least be positioned nicely in the Textile Freeman class. Anyone with a roof over their head is automatically in the upper portion of the mercantile, textile and skilled labor class. If you work a White-Collar job there's a very good chance you've got more wealth than the average Medieval noble. Education, income and personal movement go a long *long* way towards not being a Medieval Peasant. The inverse would also be true. Adjusted for inflation and ownership of wealth, the average Nobleman of Medieval Europe would be a micro nation unto themselves if you translated their estate to today's money.

It was an injury from a joust that changed Henry VIII’s behavior and England’s history. He was unconscious for some time and had a leg wound that never properly and caused considerable pain. Before, he was the perfect Renaissance prince. Afterwards, he became a tyrant.
@hollyyyyyy
@hollyyyyyy 2 жыл бұрын
You could argue he was heading that way anyway despite the head injury. He had already fallen madly in love with Anne by then and he was getting desperate for a son hence all the marriages and ruthlessness. He was also plagued by court rumours that humiliated him which ultimately led to Anne’s death.

Imagine getting knocked out by a spear, fall off horse, might have gotten drug around for a bit (hence the leg injury) before being pulled completely from the stirrup. I'm glad I am an artist and would have much joy out of drawing and colouring then. Though, I imagine colour would have been tougher to acquire or expensive in that time, let alone getting enough paper or bark to draw on. Then I would have to be lucky enough to even have time for that if I was a peasant.

Hunting in North America isn't a popular pastime for the rich. The wilderness is too dirty and there are too many bugs. Hunters are often specialists that are hired by governments to manage wild animal populations (like the out of control wild boar population). The First Nations peoples are allowed to hunt. Bears are only hunted for the illegal Chinese medicine market. Almost all Americans have several dozen automatic assault rifles and handguns. These are only for hunting and killing humans, usually mass shootings in elementary schools, churches, and concerts. Only Joe Rogan hunts with a bow. I'm not sure Medieval Royalty would consider any of this 'fun'.

You might try harder with correcting your pronunciation of names, and portrayals of monarchs. The Medieval French Royal House of a Valois is pronounced 'Val-WAH' not "Va-LOY"! Charles I of England (shown in your portrait) and Charles VI of France (the medieval monarch you reference in that portrait as your playing card example) were not the same person, not to mention that there were 200+ years between their reigns. How can this channel be taken seriously with such blatant and easily avoidable errors?
