lettuce and spinach are my top choices. (favorite lettuce: speckled leaf lettuce from seed savers exchange) They'll live happily through 20-F temps, and I sure miss them in summer! Also no pests, unlike my kale, kohrabi, beets, etc. A few radishes and carrots added to the greens make for pretty fall salads.

It will get somewhat cold in Ramona, but I wouldn't imagine you would really need a greenhouse throughout the entire winter

Great video and collaboration with UK Here we grow. I don't want to stop growing & harvesting vegetables just because it's Autumn and Winter. We still need to eat during the winter so we shouldn't stop gardening just because of the wintry weather or we will have to depend on stores for our winter vegetables which will increase our food costs. If you aren't growing & harvesting during the winter you must be able to afford the cost of vegetables in stores and that means you can afford to buy vegetables from stores all year round, so it doesn't make sense to me that gardeners stop gardening once we're into the Autumn and Winter.

I've got some runner beans still growing. I sowed them in containers on 27th July and unfortunately most of them got munched as seedlings by slugs and snails but one of two of the plants have been successful and are flowering, I'm not sure if its warm enough here (Cornwall, UK) to get beans. I also sowed some broad beans a week ago. I've recently picked my Ugni Molinae (Chilean guava) which are a small berry which has a strawberry/candy floss flavour, and my container apple trees (Jonagold and Christmas Pippin).

I don't understand how overhead watering can cause rot when in the wild, rain would presumably do the same thing? especially in regards to vegetation like broccoli where it thrives in cooler aka more rainy conditions.
