Dan's take is all about semantics. "It's not possible to be too aggressive with rookie wideouts" is wild. If you take 4 rookie wideouts with your first 4 picks, your season is probably not gonna go over too well. However, if he's saying "you can't take too many rookies" later in the draft, at appropriate ADP, etc., he's right.
@jeffstanley6013Күн бұрын
Think I have to agree with Adam. The only reason that you had rookie WR's do so well this year is because they went into situations in which they had little to no competition for targets (Nabers, McConkey) or had bad injuries to teammates that opened up a ton of targets (BTJ). That doesn't happen every year. And I'm surprised no one in this discussion mentioned the flop of MHJ.
@marcus353323 сағат бұрын
MHJ had a great rookie year for a rookie, you’re only displeased with his season if you overvalued him thinking a rookie would be the next Jefferson year 1
@jeffstanley601320 сағат бұрын
@@marcus3533 Well, yeah; that's kinda my point. His ADP was around the 1/2 turn, so the community as a whole over-valued him.
@ferratorr10339 сағат бұрын
@@jeffstanley6013The argument is purely based on the definition of aggressive here. Adam was basing it on overvaluing in ADP, whereas Dan was defining it by taking them, not necessarily reaching on them. So technically they’re both right.

Dan's 3rd claim was very misworded and I get why Adam objected. Saying that there is no limit to drafting rookie WRs suggests that we should be prioritizing rookies over vets. Which, anybody picking Harrison Jr over Evans, Collins, or London would know first hand the flaws of prioritizing rookies over established vets. Instead, judging by Dan's explanation, what he should have said is "I am not going to treat rookie WRs any different in the draft than veteran WRs. I am going to rank and pick WRs who I think is the most talented." That lesson is a much more clear way to explain his lesson and judging by what Adams objections were, there would actually be agreement between the three.

I favor Adam opinion on this one. I tend to agree with Adam more as he just seems very sensible and unbiased. But appreciate the argument on all sides, something to be learned from all of them.

I think the best plan of action in general is to fade any lessons learned from the previous season. People fall victim to recency bias, and you can win by fading that overcorrection.

I think Adam and Dan were both right. Dan went too far saying you can't draft too many. Of course you can. Had had he said "invest in rookie receivers" he would have won the day. But Adam waa right to call him out. So I agree with both.

I took Nabers at 1.4 and BTJ at 2.2 in my dynasty league. I already had Nico and London but couldn't pass on the potential value with talent combo. If the rookie wr isn't buried and is in a good offense, it's worth a shot. I also snagged pearsall once he was dropped mid season and am stashing him for next year.

I agree with Dan more than Adam. My understanding of Dan's argument is, relative to other guys in similar rounds, rookies will have more potential for upside. I don't hear Dan making the case to pull all rookie WRs into the early and mid rounds. What I hear him saying is grabbing a rookie in round 10 could yield more value than grabbing a has been or a never will be.

Saying you can’t be too aggressive is saying take chances and draft them higher. Those guys are part of trades or wire pickups, nobody drafted and held onto Ladd M, they picked him up, same for several rookies. By Dan’s take you draft Harrison late 1st and you don’t because ITS TOO AGGRESSIVE

Kyler was not trustworthy, and by the midway point in the season, I regretted drafting him in 5th rnd. I won't be making that mistake again.

I traded DK for him.. did it hurt me? Yes, I could have won that 1-2 games looking at the end of the season to get me in the playoffs. Although at the start of the season, I needed a QB. I recycled Bo & Kyler on weekly basis’. Overall, Kyler is not what he was in his first couple seasons.. I don’t think he’ll get back to that high status if he doesn’t have a coach to make sure his legs are effective and/or better his read ability for downfield plays. I agree, I will never trade/draft for him again lol.

Its not that teams dont want to throw...They are running more, to control time of possession and keeping their defense fresh....And plus, reliable "pass blocking" O lineman are not that good as years past on average..Because of all collegiate spread offenses...

It’s fantasy football, not fantasy football offense. How many times has your favorite team won or loss a game because of their kicker, or their defense made or blew a play. Having those in fantasy brings that joy/pain from the real game to the fantasy game.
@Manchupacabra6 сағат бұрын
Now that I've played five or six years without them, I'd never want to go back. They make fantasy worse. The more randomness you can remove from the game, the better.

They always do lessons learned but every year is unique. This year RBs were insane and barely got hurt, will that happen again? This year Chase was leagues ahead of every WR, will that happen again? Kittle was an insane TE again this year, will that happen again? I don't think you really take any lessons from the previous year because teams change, coaches change on both the offensive and defensive end, player personnel change every season. For example, people think the Lions may actually miss the playoffs next year. You have to just do your research after the real nfl draft and a couple weeks before the fantasy draft season begins. Then realize your team isn't determined because of your draft because you have to play the waiver wire well and also please only play in FAAB leagues otherwise you are playing in a noob league where someone can just hog the priority all season if they want. I started playing fantasy 5 years ago, and in my main league which is a competitive 12-man $200 entry, I have made the finals 4/5 years and finished 2nd every time sadly and finished 3rd place the other time. Not one of my 5 teams was the same build year over year, you have to be active, luck of your matchup plays a part and how you play your lineups. Ideally you draft by chasing good offences and play your draft board, if you are around the turns. The goal is to make the playoffs then anything can happen. Also don't give up on your rookies early because someone will scoop them up. I managed to do that with Xavier Worthy who someone dropped around week 6 (more so they had to because of injuries) but I pounced on that. Didnt play him but I could sustain on my roster and now he is a keeper for next year. Also why do we keep asking Adam about movies and TV? His takes are hot garbage. He doesn't think Die Hard is a Christmas Movie, he doesn't think Tom Cruise is an action star, he thinks Two and a Half Men and BBT are funny shows separately he thinks 11 am is after noon when it is literally before noon (also saying it is THE afternoon doesn't make your argument any better lol) and worst of all you hear what this guy thinks is good food. Just stop asking him stuff Dan, he just digs himself deeper holes haha
@osirissmith525423 сағат бұрын
I agree with Dan! I took a chance on BTJ 6.02, and the Jags made him feel like a hit-or-miss start all season. I lost 2-3 key games just by starting (or not starting) him. Then, of course, he finally emerged late in the season-right when it was too late for me to make my playoff push. All this to say: rookie WRs are a huge gamble. You have to gauge team situations and build depth to support your strategy. You could have the best NFL RB/WR/TE/QB class, but if they’re not producing FANTASY-wise, then yeah-you ended up with a stinker on draft day.
