In this video, i start putting everything back into the case. Covers installation of the low reverse piston through the center support.

I like your videos very much. I am on the way to overhaul my 4R100 and need an overhaul kit, sunshell and forward drum. May i ask what parts you recommend and where you get it from? Thank you

I'll put a complete list in the description later today but here's what I recall what was used in that build (and most 4R100s I do): Raybestos Blue Plate and high energy frictions (Stock Borg Warner frictions are fine unless your engine is exceeding 800 lbs of torque), Raybestos steel kit, complete bushing kit, Sonnax Zip kit, Transgo Tugger shift kit, Transstar SLS overhaul kit (gaskets, seals, etc), filter, solenoid pack (Ford OEM), Transgo torque converter clutch lock up PWM-to-OnOff kit (optional), thrust washer kit, billet steel input shaft (high performance only), custom low stall torque converter.

@@nickstransmissions Thank you very much, as i am from germany i would like to buy from one dealer or less as possible, because of shipping costs. Can you recommend one or maybe is it possible to buy from you?

I don’t sell any parts but check eBay. Assuming Germany’s eBay is like ours here in America you can probably find everything on there that you need.

Is this air formention stabilizer ring you installed before the center support a mod? I have two 4r100s and neither of them had one. I could see marks of center support wearing into the case. Feed bolts don't fit if I have an extra snap ring under the center support. Do you machine center support to fit this?
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions Жыл бұрын
Yep, it’s one of the many updates you have to do for these transmissions when you overhaul them. You can buy the pre-machined center support with the snap ring as a kit from Sonnax or anywhere transmission parts are sold. I usually see them on eBay for $40-50.
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions Жыл бұрын
I'll add that the reason you want to do this update is to prevent the center support from wearing into the case, as you observed plus it also prevents the support from cocking sideways thus keeping the sealing rings centered in the direct drum from wearing out and leaking/failing. Check out my 4R100 overview if you haven't already as I cover all the updates you should do when rebuilding these transmissions - may help if you're about to overhaul one or both of your 4R100s: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip6UY3qbr66Erdk Feel free to ask any additional questions and please subscribe if you haven't already - I'll be doing some more 4R100 videos in the near future so you can be notified when they're on the channel.

I'll add to Nick's replies, it's best to just buy the pre-machined support with the ring. I got the Sonnax ring in my rebuild kit and took my support to a local shop to machine it. Not only did it cost more than just buying the pre-machined support, they didn't machine it to the correct thickness and it was thinner on one side than the other. In other words, it was now junk and I ended up buying the pre-machined support off of ebay in the end.

Arent you supposed to press the intermediate piston down to be able to put the feed bolts in??
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions 6 ай бұрын
If you're referring to the 2-4 piston housing, I show the use of that large tool that compresses the int return spring so that you can get the 2-4 piston housing snap ring in place. The two main feed bolts go into the center support, not the 2-4 piston housing. The smaller OD feed bolt is installed once the bolt hole locations line up (think I show the process in the video but if not, you want to get the bolt hole lined up with the location in the case then install it, torque it to spec. The int return spring simply rests on top of the center support once it has been installed for the final time. Hope that helps, thank you for watching!

So are you just going to leave out you fixing the location of that snap ring or you gonna let people screw up their assembly of their transmission?
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions Ай бұрын
So are you just going to leave this vague and confusing comment, letting people potentially screw up their transmission rebuild because you didn't want to be more specific (and polite)? Or are you gonna let me know what in the world you're talking about so that I can either clarify, correct or explain? You realize this was filmed over two years ago, right? And I've built over 50 of those units since and several others have successfully built their 4R100s based on this series. I am not going to remember each and every step in the process for each and every transmission I build. So if there's something I need to clarify about a snap ring, speak up with the details.

Intermediate apply plate went in upside down?
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions 2 жыл бұрын
The side without the indexing marks faces the pack however either side will work as there’s no difference in thickness or surface grind between the two sides and the marks dont come in contact with frictions. So if i put it in w/the index marks facing the pack then technically its upside down but doesn’t matter functionally.

QUESTION WHAT THE BEST TRANS FLUID 4R-100 THE BEST
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions Жыл бұрын
Nearly any fluid certified Dex3/Merc for use in Fords will work; I like Castrol or Valvoline for street driven vehicles; you can also get the Ford OEM fluid. Check out AMSOil or Redline synthetic for high performance applications.

No disrespect but, why don’t you like to soak the frictions?
@nickstransmissions
@nickstransmissions 2 жыл бұрын
No disrespect taken...I don't soak them because i want to be able to spin the input and output shafts when the case is fully assembled (but VB, spacer plate, etc) are still yet to be installed. When spinning the shafts, im feeling for anything unusual (binding, dragging, unusual noises, etc) and when clutches are dry, the assembly spins real easy. Any anomalies are easily detectable. If the frictions are laden with fluid, the shafts are much harder to spin and thus anomalies harder to detect by 'feel'. The frictions don't need to be soaked before installation, they need to be soaked before working...so I instruct folks to idle their vehicles for 30 sec- 1 min, let the pump circulate fluid everywhere then shut the engine off for a half hour or so and let the clutches soak in. Then the vehicle can be taken for a test drive. most shops don't have an extra 30 min to spare when trying to move vehicles in and out so that's why they will soak frictions while assembling the unit.
