I visited many museums with my son when he was younger. We had a Museum jaarkaart, too. His favorites (really worth a visit for kids from 6 to 12 years old): Aviodrome (theme: aviation), Nemo (theme: science), Openlucht Museum (theme: historical Dutch buildings), Museum voor Oudheden (theme: archeology), Maritiem Museum Rotterdam (theme: nautical world), Naturalis (theme: nature, mostly animals). Apeldoorn has Juliana Toren. In Amsterdam you have "Nemo", science for kids. Muiden has Muiderslot, great for kids, who can become knights. Naarden has a Fortress, star shaped, with a museum about the fortress. In Vlissingen they have a Maritime museum, with all kinds of things about boats, and different exhibits. Neeltje Jans was an island made in Zeeland, where they started the Delta works. When I was younger we went there about once a year and saw it built from the island from sand, to actually seeing the pilers with shutters in place to prevent the flooding of 1953. I went there several years ago, and it's turned into a huge happening. You can take a boat trip over the Oosterschelde, they show photos of what had happened during the flood, and how they started to build the "stormvloedkering "(turning the surge around), they have seals, plenty of places for kids to play.

Archeon is great for older children (and for adults as well). Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem is by far the best zoo in the country IMO. Great for the entire family.

Hope you found the job you were looking for! Since you live in Den Haag, Madurodam comes to mind and the Mauritshuis is a real jewel box of a museum.

You are Dutch if you call 40 km or one hour drive to the Linneaushof "a little bit far". Your first attempt at pronouncing it was perfect, by the way. You might have reached the level in Dutch that it is better not to overthink pronounciations anymore.

Over here in de achterhoek we have 'het land van Jan Klaassen' which I can highly recommend! Besides the big park (outside and inside) they actually have a real plane, helicopter and bus for the kids to play in!!

Zeewolde: Pancake restaurant Hans & Grietje. So much fun! Like dining in a fairytale.. but with slides;)

yup.. themed as the witches' pancake & candy house.. filled with witches. with inside and outside slides.. and ' cursed' moving tables...if you're not careful, you end up with your tablepartners' meal. 😎😇 really a great restaurant for young families

Next time you visit de Efteling, you should visit the marskramer giftshop or the giftshop at the exit of droomvlucht. Those are the main shops where I work. Would be really fun to see you

Nice choices. 'Sprookjeswonderland' in Enkhuizen is also a nice and more affordable alternative for 'Efteling', especially for younger children. And the 'Zuiderzee' open air museum in Enkhuizen is also worth visiting. And have you tried science centre 'Nemo' in Amsterdam or 'Naturalis' in Leiden? The Escher-museum in Den Haag has a whole floor with wonderfull optical illusions...

Near to you are Drievliet and Duinrell, and while not on Efteling level, they are fun parks for children (and adults ;) ). There is a difference in Beekbergen (where you went) and Beekse Bergen (which is a safari-, and holiday park in Noord Brabant).

ah yes, wondered why she said the Beekse Bergen is close to the Hoge Veluwe. Makes sense now. I grew up in the woods outside Beekbergen. Nice little village. Very nice icecream place too nowadays in what used to be the village school :)

@@jwenting I was wondering the same but living near the Beekse Bergen safari park. Also a tip to go to with kids. Only do not get out of the car if the cheetah enclosure….. like some French family some years ago. 😂

A very nice place is: ‘t Draakje in Hierden This restaurant has a good kitchen. Children can make there own pancakes. It also has a indoor playground and a lot they can do by themselfs

Speeldernis, een natuurspeeltuin achter Blijdorp Rotterdam. Oude kleren aan. Gemeentemuseum Den Haag wonderkamers, erg leuk. De meeste tuincentra hebben in december een prachtige kerstmarkt en vaak ook een koffie met speelhoekje voor de kids.

I think a big factor in dutch people going on vacation within the Netherlands is also that the Netherlands is nature-wise very diverse (for how small of a country it is). Like it just feels very wrong as a dutch person to not see all the variety in nature the Netherlands has to offer. Nature-wise, I would really suggest to go to one of the Waddeneilanden, as it is very distinct.

When the kids are a bit older i would suggest slagharen, hellendoorn and toverland (the last one started out as a kids park and now has some of the best coaster of the netherlands. Defintly a must if you are a themepark lover).

Dear Jovie! Thanks for the nice topic and a lovely video! We have just arrived in the Netherlands, my daughter is 6 years old and I definitely need this information. Jovie, could you also make a video on how to meet new people and make friends (both for adults and a kid) when you are a family and do not have a large network as students usually have. I did my Master's in Rotterdam and did not feel lonely as a student at all. Now I feel a bit isolated and tied up to my kid. I would love to meet new people.

I always love de gevangen poort when I was a kid(and i still love it). I even had my birthday party for friends there once when I turned 10 years old. It’s a really old prison in the city center of Den Haag(next to binnenhof). It’s also nice for children. Be aware that it’s for children that are a little bit older. Like 10 years old.

With your caravan to Zeeland. After breakfast, the kids take there bikes and seek other kids and you see then back when they have hunger. Zeeland is save with lots of nature and water to entertain in the summer days.

You really have to go check out Geitenboederij het Geertje. It’s a pettingzoo. You can buy little bottles of milk which you can use to feed the babyanimals like little baby goats and sheep. It’s near Zoetermeer. Also go to the Apenheul. This is a monkeythemepark where you can look at all kinds of monkeys. Plus there are there are place within the Apenheul where actual monkeys are just walking around. My wife and I went there and we made this cool photo where my wife has a monkey on her shoulder

Sprookjeswonderland in Enkhuizen is a wonderful place to go with children up to 6 or 7. For these little ones it is just as great as de Efteling, only so much cheaper. My kids had so much fun there. They have a sign that sais: wie niet van zijn kind geniet, ziet het allermooiste niet (who doesn't see how much his kid enjoys it, doesn't see the most beautiful). A little warning about sheep and goats. You mentioned you don't get sick from petting these animals, but there is a very small chance to get q-koorts.

Er is een heel mooi Nederlands gezegde dat je leert kennen. Het luidt "Als je kinderen het naar hun zin hebben, hebben de ouders het ook!". Wij zijn vaak met onze caravan naar een camping geweest. En het leuke is, onze dochters zijn nu 21 en 23 jaar, ze zeggen alletwee: "Als we kinderen hebben gaan we lekker kamperen". Hoe leuk? Zo een compliment wil je als ouders gewoon krijgen :-)

Liked this video :) But the thought comes to my mind why kids need all the attention and catering these days. I was brought up to behave in a restaurant and to appreciate good food (so no frikandel with apple sauce). I am still thankfull for this way of education. But I guess, that as always the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I am a grandmother, my grandson is 4 years old now and I love going to the kinderboerderij with him. But my 3 children are over 30 so I don't know anything about the age you wanted to have tips for, Jovie! I am sorry 😀
