Just a note on the punches. Another KZbinr suggested putting thin (like printer) paper on top & bottom of the plastic you are punching. It helps make a cleaner cut. you might also check to see if there is plastic stuck in the bottom that prevents the punches from getting all the way through the plastic. I have an ARC punch and have not had problems so far, but I havent cut the cutting mats yet.

Although I'm not new to the planner world, I AM new to the MAMBI community and I LOVE watching these ideas on how to customize things. I never see myself as a sticker person, cause I need the space to write, but I absolutely LOVE making things with that crazy plastic cutting mats from the dollar stores! I don't know what it is... maybe the way they click in and out of the planners... who knows! Not that you weren't before I just can tell you're really enjoying this. It's funny because I downloaded the Michaels app as well and I'm riding the tale of a broke bee until I finally get my commission and I'm trying to do a pretty close to no spend. But when Michaels sends me those one day only specials I feel like their actually calling me and I have to go. I never liked shopping until the Dollar Tree thing started and I am able to say buy something for a total of $3 that could inspire me to clean the crap out of a room and all its crevices. I'm considering purchasing the long style Happy Planner hole punch for my Happy Planner Teacher's Lesson Planner. I figure I can still use it for the standard-sized Happy Planner since the width between openings is the same. So far I have only seen the long punch on the MAMBI website.

I had a similar problem with my hole punch and trying to make covers with 5mm laminate. WHat I found alleviated the problem is punching on a flat surface and pressing down on both ends with all my weight. I was holding it in my hand and squeezing in the middle as you did on a few of the pieces. I dont think all the punches engage unless your pressing down firmly with it on a flat surface and your punch will eat your material. When I did it that way, I was able to get through thick material with a clean punch. Worth trying!!

Thanks for this amazing jam-packed tutorial! I rarely subscribe but how can I not, Your videos are the best! I just got my first HP 18-month planner today, for just $5.99 at Ross. Yeah, who cares that the first 6 months already passed, at that price, I couldn't pass it up. Thanks to your most helpful and awe-inspiring vids, I'm really looking fwd to DIY'ing and setting up my planner using a lot of your tips and tricks. Looks like I'll save my 50% coupon for the big round hole punch instead of the HP punch after all the negative feedback I keep hearing about it being too weak to handle more than a page or two of scrapbook paper. My favorite tutorial of the 6 here had to be the adorable lil envelopes, the tassel was a close 2nd. Your attention to detail is impeccable, everything looked top notch. The whole mint & black theme was just lovely! Well done and great job!

Yeah...the happy planner punch is great for thin card stock and any kind of paper, but it sucks for 100lb and plastic. I created my own sticker books and laminated the cover sheets. My mambi punch got stuck when I tried to punch through the laminated standard weight paper and I had to get my boyfriend to fix it. I'm considering getting an arc punch it seems sturdier.

I agree. I dropped my HP punch ONCE, and it bent it so much I can't use one of the punches. They wouldn't replace it so your hole punch idea saves people $30+ for the cheap punch.

I agree that the happy planner punch sucks with plastic items. Paper items it works amazing and it's nice so I can print my own sheet from the Internet. I tried making a dollar tree cover out of the mats and I nearly broke my punch. :( for the price it should punch holes in concrete lol
