The palm trees next to the water tower certainly gives away the non-German location! A huge running blooper is the persistent green foliage that surrounds the camp even with the "snow" covered ground and buildings while all of the characters are bundled up for the "cold."

I'm trying not to nitpick, but technically the American" tank" used in the episode "Hold That Tiger" is not a tank at all. It's a self-propelled artillery piece. It merely resembles a tank because it has tank treads and a large caliber gun. Officially, it is a M7 105mm Motor Carriage. Its nickname is the "Priest" because of the circular machine gun ring on its right side. A tank is heavily armored and is designed to fight other tanks to exploit a breakthrough with its high velocity direct fire anti-tank gun using armor piercing ordnance. The Priest is intended to be used just behind the front lines, indirectly firing high explosive ordnance with its howitzer. It has very little crew protection. The Priest has very thin armor to repel small arms fire (pistols, rifles, light machine guns, etc.), but no more. To allow room for its howitzer and the crew to operate it, the Priest has no roof or cover. Its howitzer and crew are exposed to the elements. Finally, a Priest appeared in German markings (probably the same vehicle used in "Hold That Tiger") in the Season Five episode, "One Army At A Time."
@canuck_gamer33594 жыл бұрын
In hindsight I wonder what their best option would have been to use in production for this episode. Clearly using a Tiger tank would not have been an option, so they would have to either build something or substitute using a different vehicle. If a film on the scale of "Battle of the Bulge" could get away with using the same tank for both German and American units, surely we have to allow a sitcom some leeway. I think any actual tank would have looked better than what they used, which was as you mentioned a self propelled gun, not a tank. But what the hell, it was a comedy after all and they did do a decent job with the paint scheme so I give them a pass.

On "Rat Patrol" there was a German dual-axle "command car" painted yellow with a black cross that looked a lot like General Burkhalter's gray command car. Of course, Howard Caine (Major Hochstetter) also showed up at least once as a British officer on "Rat Patrol". As Sgt. Schultz would say, "you can't be in two armies in the same war. This is regulation!" I wonder how many times surplus military equipment was painted and repainted for those 1960s shows?

FYI, the stock footage of the man parachuting was used, throughout the entire series, as the stock footage for every parachute drop of people and/or supplies. Similarly, virtually every time they show a train exploding, it's the exact same stock footage. These aren't so much bloopers... they're basically budget constraints for a weekly SitCom that doesn't need so much accuracy. You mentioned that you couldn't pronounce the name, well it's actually (I think/assume) that it's a play on words with a popular song/musical/film from the mid-60's "Hello Dolly", so if I'm right the intended pronunciation would be like the name Dolly but with a Z at the start. The character's name was "Major Zolle" but I have no idea if that's an actual German name and if so, how it's pronounced. But I'm quite sure the intention was to have it sound like Dolly :)

I love this stuff! Keep up the great work! I would love to see you explore the following oddities from Hogan’s Heroes. In Hogan’s barracks, to the left of the main door, we sometimes see lockers and sometimes a sink. The sink is usually substituted when it is needed in the plot to look outside through the pipes in a kind of periscope. Is it possible that there are two almost identical sets used? The Commandant’s main office is directly across the compound from Hogan’s barracks from the outside. But often, when looking out the barracks door we see another barracks building. When looking from the compound into the secretary’s office, we often see just a blank wall and a room with no furnishings. I’ve seen several times when actors have left Klink’s office and then immediately turn left to exit even though the door is straight ahead. I suspect that that part of the secretary’s office on the sound stage is open to the camera since it is rarely shown. In one episode, Klink jumps out of his office window. From outside, the window is located on the far left side of the building, but the entrance to the secretary’s office and then straight though to Klink’s office would put the office on the right side of the building. Of course there are many oddities that just make the show ridiculously silly, such as a helium filled volley ball that flies away, etc. But I find the above things interesting because they hint at how the show was put together. Have you noticed that in the entire series, we never see a prisoner, bathroom, shower, or see them eating a meal in the canteen?

I do find it very funny about the Palm trees in Germany by the metallic water tank. Each episode has a production number when the music is played at the end of the episode. "The inspector General" is the real second episode that was filmed. Off the point, I would like to see "Lost in Space" the third season per episode as by the end of that episode. Sometimes they're on a planet or their in outer space. It's like seeing "Star Trek" based on the stardate.
