I haven't left a comment that I recall from the earlier videos; however, I would like to rectify that now. These are some of the best videos that I have found on the hammer dulcimer. Very slow and methodical; building on a foundation that progresses smoothly. You speak very clearly and concisely. I just got my hammer dulcimer, 28 FEB 2016; and it is now 03 MAR 2016 - and in these few short days from working along with Jess; I feel that I will be able to learn to play the instrument.

Had to listen several times. Progression of major chords. Playing 1,3,5 in the chord but the progression is to the 1,4,5 chord. I'll figure it out .... or listen again. 😊

I'm feeling really stupid at this point. How is it that this is called a 1-4-5 chord progression when you are hitting the 1-3-5 strings????

Hi Linda. There are no stupid questions! The 1-3-5 strings make up a major chord. For instance, in a G scale, G =, A=2, B=3, C=4 and D=5. A G manor chord is G + B + D (the first, third, and fifth notes in the scale). A 1-4-5 chord progression refers to chords, not notes. So if you are playing in the key of G, and you make a chord out of every note in the scale, the most common chords are the G, C, and D, which are the first, fourth, and fifth chords. Hope this helps.
