I studied in Bremen, so I know exactly what you're talking about! We actually did a bit of filming there a few years ago - we went to a lovely tea house in der Altstadt. Unfortunately, I somehow managed to lose the hard drive with the footage, so I never got to edit the video. I definitely think Ostfriesentee has a beautiful tea ceremony, which needs to be shared with the world - so next time I'm in that area I'll be sure to film it again!

Umm please allow me to share my humble thoughts concerning this therapeutic drink. I believe it was a Japanese aesthete by the name of Kakuzo (?) who wrote The Book Of Tea. In this work he speaks of the 'Queen of the Camelilias' among other things...J. W. Von Goethe produced a book on The Morphology of Plants. Cross cultural allusions aside, I have (for some time now) used a symbolic theme for my interest in Teas :'Camellia von Goethe Tea Leaf taxonomy of the paleo botanical record". For my primary interest is in finding the earliest known specimen of the Tea plant. Perhaps I am not alone on this journey. My thanks.

Mate isn't tea though. Tea is the leaves of the tea plant. Just like how dandelion "coffee" isn't coffee. Yerba also has caffeine, but it's made from the leaves of the yerba mate plant not the tea plant.

You are right - it's not really tea just like herbal teas are actually infusions, but we still call them teas. 😅 I guess we used it in this instance because people straight away know what it is and how you make it - namely by adding hot water to dry leaves. What word would you use to describe mate to someone who has never tried it or heard of it before?

This is so cool! Russia-Morocco-China ones are stunningly beautiful. An idea for part 2: - Azerbaijan & Turkey (armudu) - South Africa (rooibos) - American south (iced/sweet tea) - Thailand (thai tea) - Ireland (irish breakfast) - Taiwan (bubble tea)
