If you are interested in martial arts and/or grappling, you should give it a try. If you live in the United States, classes are usually relatively cheap (I've heard this is true in other parts of the world too, though), and clubs/schools usually don't have a problem with taking people on who are new to the sport. I can say personally that it's one of the most intense workouts I've ever had, and randori is a lot of fun because it gives you the opportunity to hone and combine the techniques that are best for your body type and mindset, thereby allowing you to develop a fighting style that is unique to you.

In my opinion, it really is as exciting to play as it is to watch. I think what makes it so exciting is that any match can end in an instant if one judoka throws the other with "impetus and control". Of course, these kinds of throws exist in other grappling arts as well, like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sambo, freestyle wrestling, and Greco-Roman wrestling. However, since executing one of these throws in other grappling sports is usually not match-ending, I feel like the tension that occurs in judo when the competitors first lock up and get their grips is a lot higher.
@byronguerra8812

I also like to remind myself when watching that these people are performing these moves on other highly trained competitors who know what to watch for and defend. Imagine an uneducated aggressor to someone who is just a moderate practitioner suddenly being tossed and smashed onto asphalt or concrete, Game over.

I've been training karate kyokushin for 4 years now and I've participated in tournaments too. I never really liked karate kyokushin but got into it because I just wanted to do some sport and martial art and that was the closest dojo next to my house. 3 months ago, I decided to get into Judo. I got into judo because I actually liked it and after experiencing it in real life I would like to say it's actually a beautiful martial art. I actually love it more than karate kyokushin. I'm still training both karate kyokushin and judo and I've planned to stay in Judo for the rest of my life just like karate. I've also agreed to participate in judo tournaments in the future too.

I learned Judo on an army base some years ago. For almost three weeks, I had to devote ALL my time just on learning all the ways to fall and roll out from a throw. It seemed so boring and useless, especially while watching the others on the other end of the mat having fun doing the throws, etc. Over many years and experiences, you come to realize just how important those first few weeks are. Years later, I learned to snow ski. My first instructor taught most of the basics well, except how to stop. So my first time up the mountain, I took off like a jet, and what he had taught me about how to stop was not working. I just kept gaining more speed. Getting close to a cluster of trees, I knew I had to stop. So, I knew I had to fall. My judo knowledge kept me very safe in that fall. Fortunately, my next ski instructor did teach me how to stop. :-)

It was really clean. When I did judo, that would of been the only one of these throws that would of been given an ippon. It has really hurt judo how they give an ippon now for basically any throw. Would say it depends on your age right but karate was very hyped through the 80-90s. I even did karate in the 90s because i thought it was cool and ended up hating it so much i never did any kind of MMA again. Karate is pretty useless IRL. Really wish i had of done judo instead of karate as a kid

did martial arts as a kid , not judo - holy shit, these people are SOOO fit and flexible, I really don't see how you could beat judo close up 1 on 1.And don't tell me with a good jab or hook , the second the distance is closed judo wins.

Judo has some of the best takedowns, but a few of these would lose to bjj, hard. They set up the one they just took down to choke them.

Gracefull distruction. Does anyone know why sometimes it looks like they are going for submissions??
@AnthonyDrogon
@AnthonyDrogon 4 жыл бұрын
Because there are submissions too in judo, it's another way to win. So they go for it, then realise the judges actually already awarded them the win with the throw, and they stop.
@ernestpablo8244
@ernestpablo8244 3 жыл бұрын
The primary way to win a match is to throw an a opponent. If the opponent is thrown forcefully and cleanly on their back the referee will score an “ippon” and raise their hand straight up signaling the end of the match. If the throw isn’t executed as cleanly, the match continues. This is when the thrower will try to salvage the match by finishing the opponent with a sub. It isn’t always clear to the competitor if they executed a clean ippon. So there is sometimes a moment when one or both competitors will look up to the referee to see if they have called it an ippon. If there’s no ippon, it’s a mad scramble to pin or submit the opponent.

I feel this is showing something being simultaneously beautiful and also importantly, a viewing in slow motion that is incredibly critical of the decisions made by the athlete. None of us are Perfect. But this a way to move forward, be it succeeding against your opponent or being defeated. Both offer a growing experience. I would like to congratulate each defeated opponent for their effort, whilst recognising the superior victor in these particular matches. Onwards and upwards. Respect.

I think Judo is one of the cruelest competition to be ever exist. You trained your whole life, only to be beaten by a slight point cause you failed to fix your uniform. Judo is the kind of competition where you can't even let yourself make a tiny mistake
