We must not forget the Vogon Constructor Fleet. Just one of their ships took out Earth on a random Thursday, simply to stay on schedule building a hyperspace bypass through our star system.
@Pete...NoNotThatOne3 жыл бұрын
True, but it required hundreds of them, we had no prior warning (I don’t care if the plans had been on display at the local planning office at Alpha Centauri for at least fifty of our earth years.) and if somebody had had a chance to employ a really good lawyer, the Vogons may have just left.

Some powerful humans ships that are less well-known are the planetoid warships used by the ancient human imperium/empire in the Dahak trilogy. To put things in perspective, humanity in the ancient past had millions of planetoid warships with the Earth's moon being a medium-sized warship. Each of these things can operate with a crew of only a few thousand, if not by AI alone (though this is less effective) and each carries a swarm of support warships and utility craft and all the things a self-sustaining space army needs. They have extremely-powerful shields, atom-ripping energy weapons and FTL missiles that operate in multiple phases of reality to sometimes bypass enemy shields in untold numbers, and can also defend against a shit-ton of weapons of the same caliber.

Star Fleet seemed utterly helpless against the "Whale Probe" from Star Trek IV.
@tba1133 жыл бұрын
According to the novel set shortly after the movie, it seems Starfleet having their ships overwhelmed and shut down by the Probe's comm systems was lucky. If they'd been sturdy enough to actually try shooting at the Probe, it would have utterly curb-stomped them. At one point in the novel, the Probe wanders off into Romulan space. They lose a few warships who took shots at it, but then the Probe found a world where the Romulans had a minor base. Apparently, it was an oceanic world, and among other things, the Romulans were farming the local whale-equivalents. Originally they'd just been studying the creatures, but they'd switched to harvesting once their research was done. Bad move. The Probe went berserk when it figured that out, and effortlessly wiped out every last Romulan ship and structure it could find in revenge - including an entire _fleet_ they'd deployed to defend the planet, once it was clear that the Probe wasn't some kind of weird Federation propaganda. It's not a bad novel, as these things go. Non-canonical, like all Trek novels of course, but it gives a sense of just how much of an absolute beast that thing was - and more importantly, expands the story without exposing too much of the Probe's mystery.

One ship missing from this list, imho, is a Harbinger-class Reaper from Mass Effect. Not sure about the specifics but the bastard was definitely bigger than a Sovereign-class and came equipped with the typical armament of direct fire, high-intensity laser weapons that can sheer a dreadnaught in half, maneuverable claws that can crush ships, almost invincible shielding, and several flights of autonomous drone fighters (Oculuses I believe). It's the one type of Reaper that we NEVER see taken down, which does leave the possibility that the thing just couldn't have be killed conventionally in the first place. And on top of everything it exhibited extensive psionic abilities by being able to utilize telepathy and, if given enough time, influence and control the mind/will of the subject. Reaper Indoctrination, the name of this psionic ability, is completely insidious in its progression: the subject has no idea that it is happening to them as the Reaper's will slowly replaces their will and personality. Indoctrination is also fatal once it passes a certain point, leaving the subject unable to resist the will of the Reaper except for only the briefest of moments, and only for the strongest of minds/wills. The vast majority of the time, the subject will eventually morph into the terrifying techno-beasts that make up the Reapers' ground armies.

My brother and I designed a warhammer 40k ship for a role play adaption of the 40k universe we made. The ship was the objective in a campaign where the players main objective was capture the ship from the Orcs. The whole ship was built around an alien cannon of unknown origin that the Orcs had named The Whump Whump Cannon, owing to the noise it makes as it charges. It was a simple weapon to use, hold the dinner plate sized red button on the ships bridge down for as many Whumps as you see appropriate and let go when you're ready to fire. The squad that captured the Whump Whump Cannon ship were intercepted by an Orcish battle fleet led by the mighty Baglash the Ridiculous. "Surrender your vessel and we may only make you our slaves, refuse and we make you into lunch" was the choice Baglash gave the squad. The Squads leader decided to fire the as yet untested, by humans at least, Whump Whump Cannon at Baglash's flagship and pressed the big red button for three pulses or Whumps as they came to be known. As it turns out three Whumps was a little too much of a charge, as soon as the space marine captain released the button a massive blast of energy was released from the Whump Whump Cannons huge barrel and the entire Orc Fleet was instantly vaporized. The unintended consequence of Whump Whump Cannon shot was that every star and planet in line of the shot for a distance of 300 light years was also totally destroyed leaving no trace of them ever existing. The Whump Whump Cannon drew its power from the Chaos Realm and focused it into a beam of savage power and space warping destruction. Each charging pulse took as long as it does to say Whump. This was a savage ship that was unfortunately lost in warp space before it could be used again, some say deliberately lost by its crew once they realised it could not fall into the hands of anyone at all.

Necron ships inertialess drive is a material realm drive. They use the webway for interplanetary movement, not the drive.

The Beast Mothership from Homeworld Cataclysm What make this ship a threat to humanity is not its weapons but the ability to infect relatively any inorganic and organic matter with its techno-organic nanites. Any ship that does not employ plasma purges in the infected areas will be quickly consumed and added into the Beast's tech and knowledge base, becoming even stronger.

The Manevolance should not be on this list … it is a ship for saving Humanity. The ship was part of Palatine's plan for seizing control of the Galaxy and putting Humanity back on top. He even usurped that green frog that had been running the Jedi for centuries. *A Humanity First Empire.*

Vorlon and Shadow Planet Killers from BABYLON 5 were quickly able to destroy entire planets either vaporizing them completely (Vorlon) of reducing them to balls of molten rock (Shadows). It depends on how one defines "lesser known".

I think the Desura II, Neu Desura, and the unidentified Iscandarian ships from Space Battleship Yamato 2199/2202 would count, as would the Gatlantis ships

How about the lost ships from the old anime "Lost Universe"? Specially the Dark Star and Swordbreaker. You guys should make a video about "Lost universe" in Generation Ochi.

I forget what video I heard about it in and it’s the only source I’ve heard about it from but it mentioned a ship in Star Trek that’s half the size of the Milky Way that it’s mere movement could destroy half the galaxy

The Cairn Class Tombship gets even more extreme than that when you take into account things like its ship scale Nightmare Shroud that can drive the crews of other ships insane with fear from hundreds of thousands of kilometres away, its point to point wormhole teleportation that lets it flood opposing ships with Necron boarding parties of killer undead androids not only from its own shipboard compliment but direct from tombworlds many lightyears away... and the fact that they often carry their own on board C'tan Shard in case they need to unleash an actual god fragment into the fray. I'm pretty sure having a C'tan to repel or perform boarding actions is a winning hand. Sure, the other side might have teams of well trained elite troops with potent weapons and armour, but you have an actual god-pokemon, complete with the ability to manipulate the fabric of reality itself. If you are lucky, it will just Thanos-Snap your boarding parties/crew compliment out of existence. If you are unlucky.... things will probably get rather messy. That doesn't really seem like a fair fight.

It never is - which is part of what makes 40k fun. it ALWAYS is over-the-top in some way or another
@jimmyadamo39993 жыл бұрын
I just have to say, I dislike 40k intensely. Not sure why, it's just bad. Also, calling the zerg a "species" seems inaccurate.
@CallsignYukiMizuki3 жыл бұрын
Same. For me it mostly comes down to the fanboys and how much 40k is being shoved down my throat. I absolutely hate how a healthy sci-fi discussion can easily be ruined because some fanboy starts mentioning 40k and how their lore is incredibly wank or acts like 40k is totally original and calls everyone else a rip off. Having said that, I do appreciate the non-fanboy part of the community and their dedication without going to obsession
