The best thing about Stargate really is encapsulated by the Prometheus. In Stargates long run time every little thing the team discovers ultimately ends up coming back for a payoff. And the Prometheus is a great example of that. The way little bits of tech learn from different varying civilizations that Stargate command has had contact with show up in its description and makeup. You have to kind of dig to find some of it, but it's definitely all there and it just gives everything about the show once you start to get to these later advancement of humanity seasons a real sense of authenticity earned by the show. These set piece developments and advances carry a real sense of accomplishment for us as the viewer, because we were there when they came into being. In my mind it's the thing that really pushes Stargate from a good science fiction to a great science fiction

I love how the show tries to follow the logic of what we would do with such tecnology. Give humans a transporter, something other species don't really consider a weapon, and you can be damn sure they will transport a nuke straight into the generator of that enemy ship, because that is what we would do.
@JD968933 жыл бұрын
i agree, seeing humanity advance and learn new things is in many ways analogous to what many wish too see in real life with NASA and SpaceX. Thats really what i liked about Stargate. Instead of seeing a bright future like we see in Star Trek, we get to see Earth as it is today with all its problems and also all the problems of the galaxy which could also be an analogy to problems on Earth. In the show we see people over come these problems often time sacrificing themselves for people they dont even know or who may not even want their help. We also see them discover many secrets and uncover knowledge of the universe. I love to learn about the universe, science, and space, this series explores many of these subjects and ideas in a fictional way.

The 3d model was scaled up to 519 m because the size of 195 meters wouldn't work with the design they went for. This is essentially the size of a Zumwalt-class DD, so let's compare to that. 1) A Zumwalt has one helicopter and a few UAVs. The Prometheus has 8 X302 fighters. Keep in mind that an X302 is much bigger than a contemporary F/A-18 - and certainly much bigger than a helicopter. , and the Prometheus has a hangar strapped to each side. Also... look at how small those hangars are compared to the ship. 2) The Prometheus is a battlecruiser. While a Zumwalt has 2 gun mounts where proposed railguns were to be installed (currently taken by 155mm guns), the Prometheus has 24. It's primary weapons (though altered several times) are an arsenal of nukes that would put a typhoon class sub to shame. 3) It carries far more armor and has a shield. 4) Also... this being the first Earth ship spouting all sorts of exotic technologies, it also wouldn't really make sense that they could miniaturize that to fit into something the size of a cruiser or large destroyer.... and still have room left over for two hangars. 5) It _does_ make sense that they wouldn't need a large crew. Aliens advanced enough to build something like a hyperdrive can also automate. The bridge facilities were spartan, sure, but they were big enough for what they were intended to do. Better to spread the (small) complement out to where they can't all be killed in one strike. Plus, a smaller bridge avoids the Star Wars problem where all the cool ships have so many weak spots that they are all killed within an hour of arriving at the battlefield. Yeah, that 2 billion dollar price tag we hear quoted doesn't work on any level (not even for a tiny ship with respectively smaller price tag). Surely there was more design work needed to reverse engineer aliens thousands of years more advanced than to design a Zumwalt.

Daedalus class, Asgard O'Neill class ship, Ori toilet bowl ship...just do all of them! One thing...the Antarctica battle. We wasted waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many drones.
@BamBamGT13 жыл бұрын
Well it was the first time. They hadn't really thought about the actual concept of the drone at that time I think. These lights also didn't really look the same like the drones we see later. With hindsight, it does look like seriously overkill and makes you think: you could have taken out that ship with just a handful of them. Iirc in atlantis there was an episode wherre they took out a wraith cruiser with just 1 drone :p it's in Atlantis where they pushed the idea if these things being scarce, same with ZPM's. Which I always found a bit odd. Atlantis a self sustaining city, surely upon exploring the city you'd come across an area where they mass produced drones and zpm's.
@johncee8533 жыл бұрын
@@BamBamGT1 they were definitely smaller in Lost City, no doubt. They swarmed each super soldier, one would be sufficient. They hit the Death Gliders with swarms, one would be sufficient. It only takes a few to take out a Ha'Tak, they used dozens in each one and they hit Anubis's Super Ha'Tak with hundreds at least. As for Atlantis, they damaged a Wraith Cruiser with just one...it was on that planet where the prisoners were put on the island so the Wraith would leave the mainland population alone. And you got to remember when the Ancients left Atlantis at the bottom of the ocean, they had already been fighting the Wraith for false god knows how long. Maybe the didn't have time to build more before they left, maybe they didn't need to considering they were leaving anyway. But I agree, there should have been a lot more there when we arrived, but that would have made it too easy! It made for a much more desperate fight later on. Wiping out the Wraith Hives and Cruisers in a few seconds would have been too easy. Just my 2 cents. I actually just watched Lost City yesterday! Don't know if you know or if you are interested but SG-1 just came out on blu-ray dvd...sort of. It's not a digital remaster like Star Trek TNG, but it does still look a lot better!

Its definitely not 195m long. The ship was designed by the asgard to fight hatak vessels. Those vessels were nearly 700m in length. There is also a key feature a lot of fans have missed out when describing the Prometheus and its weapons capability. The reason it was able to take on hataks at all, was not just because of its shields. But the asgard designed its railgun as well. These were not normal human designed rail guns. I would likem them to haveing a plasma tip on the roumd. This would allow the round and its subsequent magnetic field to be able to weaken shields. Normal rail guns would give no bother at all to a hataks shield. But yeah this ship was never ment to look or be 195m. The reason for its reduced crew is simply down to it being designed by beings that created ships that could be operated by 1 person. The trek yards size is derived from the actual fighters it carrys.

Ships which are 700 meters long, 650 meters wide, and 315 meters tall, and they're packing enough firepower to flatten Tokyo. So building the Prometheus to be bigger than a Nimitz does make sense considering the enemy they were fighting.

The Prometheus being larger than an Aircraft carrier makes sense. As for the crew size that is explained by the fact that the automation and far more advanced technology simply doesn't require as many people. Aircraft carriers have as many people as they do because of the large amount of fighters and all the extra people needed for just one of those. Plus if you went with the supposed size of the ship the F-302 would never fit inside. The model is scaled correctly for it size of 500+ meters.

Even if that number is much more realistic in terms what we can actually build, the ship in the series was vastly larger. And how can i say it with such a conviction? It is easy, just take the top view of the ship, scale it to be 195 meter long and then measure the rest. you will find out that if you do that, the main hangar of the ship is only 12 meters wide. That is kinda problem considering the 302 is 14 meters wide...not to mention that the main body of the ship would be only 25 meters wide....that doesnt leave too much space for the 302s anyway....

Here's an idea for a vid: A mock battle between the Prometheus from SG1 vs.the Prometheus from Star Trek.
@user-xu2pi6vx7o3 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly enough, the ships are pretty evenly matched. The SG Prometheus has far better shields and a far better FTL drive, but far weaker weapons than the ST Prometheus, while the ST Prometheus has far better weaponry and can separate into three independently operating parts, but has less capable shields and a far slower FTL drive. The SG Prometheus has nukes that are more powerful than the ST Prometheus' photon torpedoes. The ST Prometheus' photons are faster than the SG Prometheus' nukes, in reaching the target. The SG Prometheus has point defense weapons that might help it against the ST Prometheus' photon torpedoes, whereas the ST Prometheus only has its shields to defend against the nukes. The ST Prometheus has directed energy weapons that hit instantly, whereas the SG Prometheus has railguns that need travel time for their projectiles. The SG Prometheus can use its FTL drive to partially remove itself from reality and into hyperspace which, according to Star Trek Online, will give it enhanced resistance to physical damage. (Star trek online has an item, that does almost exactly this, which offers you a defensive boost across the board. That item and ability however has never been shown in the show, afaik.) And then we get to the fighters and shuttles. The SG Prometheus has dedicated fighters, the ST Prometheus has service shuttles (those are not shown on screen afaik, but every ST ship has shuttles, bar none, so I'll assume they use standard Voyager shuttles). The SG Prometheus' fighters have a better FTL than the shuttles, but the shuttles' FTL has a longer range. The SG Prometheus' fighters have slow moving projectile weapons, missiles, and nukes, whereas the ST Prometheus' shuttles have instant hit phasers, faster moving photon torpedoes and shields. The SG Prometheus's fighters are pretty agile, compared to the shuttles, but the shuttles have transporters. However, the shuttle transporters are relatively short ranged and aren't really able to lock on to agile targets. The SG Prometheus' fighters can use their FTL drives to execute short jumps to bypass enemy shields, something I don't believe the shuttles are capable of doing, but the shuttles are overall more durable. And last, but not least, the SG Prometheus can land, whereas the ST Prometheus cannot.

In reality sure, but that doesn't hold very well in sci-fi. Judging from the portable Naquadah generators, generator big enough to power Prometheus/Daedalus wouldn't need very big supply of Naquadah

@@gony5456 well , to be fair , object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon outside force. So , to cruise in space you only need fuel for accelerating , course change and braking.

There was also the life support issue. Remember, engines, reactors, weapons, advance materials, sensors, all took priority. Life support was sadly a big oops. As such the ships large size and small crew enabled them to be out for decent periods of time. Carriers have limitless, air, subs can take oxygen out of the water, but in space you have primitive recycling life support technology to keep you alive.

Stargate, FINALLY, getting some much needed TLC and attention~😊😘💗

It makes sense the ships would seem bigger with less crews. You have to have reactors for power, and large engineering sections for the engines. Plus areas to stock all the ordnance needed.

Is there more Stargatecontent on the horizont? I would really love you to dive in some Asgard ships.

Although a earth bound carrier has a crew of over 3500 it didn't need life support to keep the crew alive, it also used less advanced and efficient earth technology for it which was a limiting factor into how many the Prometheus could carry.

These and the expanse ships I find give the best demonstration of what is likely. Although we do plan to build our next generation of interplanetary ships in orbit. That however is due to the limitations of lift capacity

There are a couple of really neat size comparison charts out there for a whole slew of spacecrafts from various works of science fiction, although not entirely complete, but pretty damn close. A lot of it is clearly conjecture.

The emperor in Star Wars didn’t make his first appearance until 80s. He may have been mentioned in 777 movie but did not appear.

I believe the only reason they fail to destroy the satellite is because they hesitate. This gives the satellite a chance to power up its shields. Also, the name of that episode is Ethon, which is the name of the eagle that tormented the mythical Prometheus after Zeus punished him
