0:00 - Intro
Are you ready to take your guitar skills to the next level? You’ll feel more comfortable improvising on the guitar and create some pretty cool licks.
1:10 - Level 1
In this lesson, we'll be centering around a 12-bar blues in the key of A. The pentatonic scale is always a great place to begin because you’ll get the most mileage out of it!
4:34 - Level 2
building a vocabulary of licks you can find online or in songs you listen to and implement them into your playing. They inspire you to find your sound.
8:59 - Level 3
Trust your ear and try exploring notes outside of the scale. If they sound good to you, then they’re probably good!
13:15 - Level 4
By following along the 12-bar blues with arpeggios, you can know which notes to play along with the chord changes. This is your way of outlining all the chord tones in your playing.
16:09 - Level 5
Start linking in those “weird” sounding notes. They’re the ones that build tension in the song and add emotion (and sound a little jazzy!)
19:41 - Level 6
Out of all the levels, THIS is the most important step. Adding techniques like vibrato, sliding, and bends is the best way to add the most emotion to your playing.
About Ayla Tesler-Mabe:
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first KZbin video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

Ayla: you are a wonderful guitar teacher. You explain things clearly, and you encourage rather than lecture. Your pacing in the things you present is perfect, and I loved the fact that you demonstrated almost everything you explained, clearly and slowly enough to follow. One of the better video guitar teachers I have found. Keep up the great work.

I started "playing" the guitar on my own and without instruction decades ago. I got pretty good as a rhythm guitarist playing and/or finger picking chords, but soloing was always beyond my ability. Ayla, thank you for de-mystifying the neck, and turning all the lights on for me regarding playing solos. I never got it before, mainly because I never had anyone explain it as clearly as you do. I can't wait to really start playing, now. Thank you!!

AYLA, Great job on every video of yours that I have watched! In lots of video's I have seen, the teacher seems more interested in showing off how Good they are and talk way above a beginners comprehension. Your lessons seem to be more about helping people understand the lesson and in a way that encourages one to try your suggestions out, instead of feeling intimidated by them. GREAT STUFF!!!!!!!!
